Actually not hilarious at all. Rather sad.

ruthelane - 3/23/2008 at 03:44 AM

I don't care for those videos either. Sad is right.

ClayPelland - 3/23/2008 at 04:15 AM

While I hate the fact that some have been offended, the truth of the matter is that I don't post anything that I'm not personally a big fan of. I was asked if I was mad at Gregg. The answer is no, not at all. I guess some might think these video's put Gregg in a negative light. I don't. To me it's history. The good, the bad and the ugly.

greggswoman - 3/23/2008 at 04:31 AM

Before the opinion police show up, LOL!, I'm not offended, Clay. As a matter of fact, I have that 1977 show on dvd. I've referred to it many times. Just not something that I, personally, would share. Not because I want to pretend it didn't happen, but out of respect to him. Just my opinion here. Clay, you have the goods my Brother!!

ruthelane - 3/23/2008 at 05:44 PM

I'm not offended Clay. Those videos are from a sad period in Gregg's life.
I really don't like the videos. But I still like you.

hilarieandthefamily - 3/23/2008 at 09:38 PM

I needed to post here. Although some do not care for that time period in Gregg's life, I know Gregg didn't want to be there either. It did suck, in some ways still sucks, and is in fact a reality. Have you noticed in his bio he makes mention to the fact that he will be leaving out the drugs and alcohol. He doesn't remember those days. We all do, those who we're around him. I am honestly grateful he made it this far and has those years of sobriety under his belt. There was many a time I felt like I was waiting on the call........
Please do not misconstrue what I have said, or take it out of context, just leave it alone, it is just a statement. I have noticed sometimes people get nasty around here, so I feel like defending myself ahead of time. Maybe it will keep the wolves away.

Peachfan8 - 3/24/2008 at 01:16 AM

Hey, just like you said. Gregg doesn't want to focus on it, but I am sure he also doesn't try to act like it never happened. We wouldn't have the history of this band's work without it's entirety. Drugs and all!

Thanks Clay!

Peachfan8 - 3/24/2008 at 01:20 AM

My above post coming from someone who has experienced being on stage, and being to messed up to play. Not something that I want to remember either. Hell, I still cringe when I see folks that were there that night. However, I am sure that Gregg has learned a lot from those times!

ruthelane - 3/24/2008 at 01:29 AM

I am not suggesting it didn't happen. Of course it happened, sad as it was.
Everybody has their opinion. I don't like bringing up or focusing on those times.
It has been pretty well documented, so it can't be deleted from history. Clay
posts a lot of very nice photos and videos. I appreciate that very much. But
I didn't care for these. That's just how I see it.

ClayPelland - 3/24/2008 at 05:07 PM

The overall power of the music is much greater than a single entity within. And it deserves to be seen and heard. Like it or not.

ruthelane - 3/24/2008 at 09:44 PM

The overall power of love...for Gregg!
I will love that man no matter what videos
are shown or what anybody has to say
about him, past or present. I'm not denying
his past, but I guess I have heard as much
negative as I can. Gregg is sober, clean and
leading a responsible life now. I admire him
for that. So carry on.

Gregg: "The kind of music I play is honest rock, blues, jazz fusion."

I had no problem with any of those videos.

Peachfan8 - 3/26/2008 at 01:07 AM

Ruthie, I don't think anyone is attacking you here! I just agree with Clay in saying that any Gregg is good to see. Even his rougher days are still cool to see. I didn't get to see the man in his younger years, and I would like to soak up as much as I can. That is all! Hope you can understand our intentions!

ruthelane - 3/26/2008 at 02:00 AM

Who else are you speaking for Drew? Some of the folks here, including myself,
have loved Gregg since before you were born. I didn't say anyone on this thread
was attacking me. I said I didn't like the videos. I personally don't think dredging
up the past is history. The history is well documented. If you enjoy seeing a performer
at the worst part of their lives, then go ahead. I hope you enjoy it.

mbh - 3/26/2008 at 02:17 AM

The videos that show Gregg in Japan in 1977 were indeed a low point in his life. The nature of Gregg's demons are not that different from many of our own. I'm sure he wasn't that loaded everyday in 1977 or any other time. He most likely suffered relapses mixed in with periods of clarity. But I dont think he's ever had the stretch of success that he's had the past 12 years and i commend him for it. To quote the late great Lowell George, "Its so easy to slip, its so easy to fall."

ruthelane - 3/30/2008 at 06:05 PM

I feel fortunate to be part of this group of generous souls.
A lot have sent me music and DVDs. I hope to join the givers
soon. I have the equipment, a DVD/VHS Playaer/Recorder.
I just have to learn how to use the damn thing. I gave it a try
once, and cut out part of the original. I guess that's what manuals
are for. I don't have a big collection but I am willing to share. And I
didn't forget about the DVD I promised you Drew.

Dannyspell - 3/30/2008 at 06:14 PM

I know what you mean Ruthie. I had to get my granddaughter to show me how to play her X-box I bought her. And that was after I read the manual.

Peachfan8 - 3/30/2008 at 11:49 PM

Hey Ruthie, I forgot all about that! No rush, I know that I too have some stuff to send out to folks that I just haven't gotten to. I get so busy, and then realize that I just didn't get to everything I wanted to do! Crazy how life goes so fast!!!!!

Exercise is one of those things I have been meaning to make time for too. Huh, seemed to forget that one also!

Clay, you owe me a month's worth's of Puff's Moisturizing Tissues. Do we know each other, have we met at some of the gigs. I started freakin crying when I saw this.

One because this is my favorite song, a few times when I felt bad, this wonderful long blond haired man would sing this to me on an acoustic. It was like my bedtime story. And well being on the Hep. C meds don't help either.

Center Stage right? My dear friend Tommy Miller, I loved hangin with him, he was so so so real and awake during the day. I came across this original external CD car player that I got when Tommy and I went to a music show if you will.

They were showing and selling all the new audio stuff that was coming out. This seller, short of calling him a dealer, gave me one. Just freakin gave me one. Tommy was wearing his GAF pass, that's when I learned the pass had perks.

So when I asked Tommy one day if we could go shopping at Planet Hollywood he said bring your band pass. I was like why? Because with that 50% of denims, leathers, t- shirts, pins. The power of the pass.

Oh and back stage too, which is not all that big of a thing, the music sounds rough back there, and the only advantage is keeping everyone together: family, kids. Then you all have fun with each other when we get back to where ever we are staying.

Then if you try to go out to eat or something, they come out of everywhere. I found it a bit overwhelming at times. But...I won't change a minute.

i swear these meds make you forget everything, "Hard Rock Cafe", not Planet Hollywood.

Honestly, about five years ago I started asking everyone I traded music with, if they had any video? And I was blown away at just how much there was out there. Over about a two year period I was getting and sending video tapes right regular. Then, when the dvd format hit I had most of them transfered...... And through all that, I've never owned a dvd burner.

Dreams has always been my favorite. I've probably heard it a thousand times, a hundred different ways. And to me, the above version, on that night, is one of the very best I've ever seen or heard. The raw energy is incredible, and Gregg's vocals along with the passion he puts into this song, from a visual and vocal standpoint, is some of Gregg's very best work! In my opinion.

I have a "Dreams" on Video dated 7/29/89 St Louis. It is an audience shoot probably from the nosebleed seats because the camera appears to be on Zoom and the image can be pretty shaky at times, but this is a smokin' version. I'm sure many of you really think that you know what you're talking about when you refer to those 1977 videos. I'm happy that you are all so self satisfied. I guess you all think you are Gregg's immediate family. So what if Let This Be a Lesson to Ya was sluggish. So what if Sweet Feeling was sub par to ya. It was Gregg's life. You all act like you caught Gregg in a compromising situation. If the man had a buzz here or there then who hasn't known that Gregg was a smoker, and a toker and a snorter, etc. It's dumb to act like posting a video or linking fans to a video of a somewhat less than sober GA or band is suppossed to be some major act that requires fans to step forward to forgive Clay or anyone else

Jeez, I can't tell you how many times Gregg Allman has disappointed me with his band or even with his voice. One video or even one recording does not even begin to touch upon Gregg's life. I have MANY Gregg Allman shows that are hardly even worth listening to simply because they aren't that GREAT. Gregg and the ABB can't be super special day after day, year after year. There have to be lower periods or there wouldn't be high periods to be compared with. This fan base always acts like The Allman Brothers Band has arrived RIGHT NOW and that THIS is the best period of the band.

Personally I'm glad that every GA cd wasn't another remake of Laid Back.

Some or even a lot of less than sober ABB band moments are still QUITE GOOD. If I was only collecting ABB shows that featured a completely sober band then I would have a very small collection of ABB shows.

I'm glad some of you think you are so intimately connected to Gregg Allman and to this band, and I'm sure your well wishing and positive vibrations amount to something. But why do some of you think you are in a position to where you can apologize for a video or for Gregg, or for a band lineup that didn't do it for you?

Jesus Christ, I am so glad the ABB of yesterday was not the ABB of today. God, I wouldn't be a great fan of the band if I had only about 40 years of Warren and Derek thrashing on guitar.

Part of life is pushing the envelope. Ok, so Gregg and his bands have pushed that envelope. To assume now that the band has arrived and is creating some sort of mystic musical artistry is some kind of delusional madness.

It's only music and people making music. Time will be the judge of how good the music or the band members really were. Which is to say your endorsements of the present lineup or of someone's sobriety is typical but in the long run only your opinion.

I think Gregg sounds pretty good on that Move Me video too. He's in very good voice.
I guess because he was with Cher that he should be embarrassed forever, but REALLY, there were other moments with Cher like on the Cher Show that were phenomenally worse.

I'm very greatful too that Gregg didn't go disco and sure, the Arista lps were really as bad as most folks think they were. But get a grip and stop apologizing for Gregg or for one of his bands. Let Gregg or his band mates apologize for their sub par moments. Or let the children or the parents of band members apologize. God, who do you al think you are anyway. You HOPE you are really family, but this is just cyberspace afterall.

According to an interview I saw with Cher, she received a phone call from a friend and the friend told her.. " Turn on your radio, Gregory has a hit song !"

Cher went on to say in the interview that I'm No Angel was to be on her next album and that it was really a suprise to hear Gregory doing the tune ( or something like that )

Yikes! I really wish Cher would just go away.

Beautiful. Just Beautiful! Thank you.

Very nice Sue. I have a DVD of that Graham Nash show. A kind soul from around here sent it to me and it is wonderful. Gregg at his best. Both singing and telling funny funny stories.

greggswoman - 7/8/2008 at 08:04 PM

I couldn't agree with you more Luke. But I feel that MY intentions have been mistaken. I'm not trying to have all this swept under the rug...what I'm talking about is respect. Something that Gregory has earned.

MaconPeach - 7/8/2008 at 08:41 PM

Oh, wow, that "These Days" video brought tears to my eyes. Probably my favorite song on Laid Back....and I LOVE that album. How great is it with Graham Nash harmonizing and playing the harp...my oh my, just what I needed at the end of this long work day.
Thanks so much for posting this, Sue.

Oh no Luke. Never thought that at all. Just wanted to clear up what I was trying to say earlier in the thread.

ruthelane - 7/9/2008 at 02:18 AM

Hey LUKE. Nobody sweeping it under the rug here. We know Gregg's past, but we don't really like to talk about the bad stuff here. But we do love gossip! We just like to have fun! Take care, LUKE. Love Ya', Man

Melissa from the Dennis Miiler show in 1992. I remember the ABB being on the show. The show was about to be canceled. First it was cancelled and then the powers that be let the show run about another week. Dennis wasn't sure what was going to happen and he was in a very awkward position. From what I remember the Allman Brothers Band were on the very LAST EVER show. If I am wrong about this correct me but that is how I remember it. I thought "how cool to close the talk show with the ABB."
