Thread: One Way Out with Ace

My local classic rock station played ''One Way Out'' last night. After it ended, the DJ said it was from Wolfgang's Vault and that it was from the closing night at the Fillmore. Isn't that the Eat A Peach one??? I know it was Duane and Thom Doucette on it. I don't recall ever hearing Thom on One Way Out before. Maybe the 9/16/71 show? I can't believe I don't know this version. Any ideas? Thanks!

Well, the version on EAP is from the 6-27-71 show, but you're right, I don't recall Ace being there that night, and I don't have my Deluxe Version of EAP handy to check.

Excellent catch and great question. Nice to know there people paying attention out there *salute*

My guess is that it was from 3-13-71 at the Fillmore East. I think most, if not all Wolfgang's Vault shows come Bill Graham affiliated venues, which would rule out 9-16-71.

Here's a list of every show it's been played:

I just looked at my EAP insert and it doesn't show him and I just listened to the version on youtube and i don't hear any harp on it. And I think most of us have the boot from that night and he's not on any of that. Just a miss quote by the DJ or different show

I went to the valut and 3/13/71 has Ace on it

It's from 3/13/71 for sure. I didn't realize OWO was played during the March run. I wonder why that version was never released on The Fillmore Concerts or the Deluxe AFE.

Not sure....I'm sure I have it somewhere but IMHO the 6-27-71 is THE definitive version - I think Dickey's solo is possibly his best ever and I haven't heard Duane play any better on any other version of OWO.

I agree with you completely brofan.

Absolutely agree. Without doubt my favorite blues performance ever. In my mind, they did the perfect song there.

Lot of feedback issues during the performance on 3/13/71 and again the 6/27 version is just so good even with the dropped beat before Duane's solo. Brofan said it best, Dickey's solo is his finest solo ever recorded. His solo on Done somebody wrong from that same show is also off the hook that whole show is excellent they were peaking as a band during that time period. I think if Duane lived they probably would have exploded on stage at some point because of the energy level they were taking too. I have Capt Skippers remix of 6/27 and it sounds like your on stage with the band
