Was very sad when i heard Alpine is closed this year.I saw my first ABB show in 1990 and many more memorable shows in the 80's-2000's.

Not sure it's a full RIP, likely just no shows booked there this summer. I was surprised how few shows have been there the last few years:

I'd put it at 50/50. I went last summer for Dead and Company, which was well attended, but they hardly booked anything last year. I think they were thinking of making it camper friendly again, but it didn't happen in time for the shows. Seems like the venue could use some updates as well.

It got to be such a "Bust" up there through the years. The DEA would set up shop and bust patrons for various reasons.I'm sure that hasn't helped attendance.

I think they also have ordinances to prevent vendors, so there was no Shakedown Street in the parking lot or nearby. Other venues, including Live Nation ones, were fairly accommodating to the culture.

My 1st heart wrenching thought was the loss of SRV, His last moments of life. RIP.

Glad I saw Phish there in 2015. Camped in the area and had a really fun weekend. Also got a good workout in from just walking around the venue.

SRV is the ONLY thing I think of when I hear/see the words Alpine Valley.

It seems they are getting black balled and shut out. Are they not affiliated with Live Nation? There are plenty of big acts touring and filling sheds like Tom Petty, etc.

It will be interesting to see what happens next year.

porkchopbob - 3/21/2017 at 08:49 PM

It will be back, but it doesn't surprise me since back in the day, if any acts went through WI, they went through Alpine Valley. Now Pabst Theatre in Milwaukee and the Orpheum and Majestic in Madison (and probably a few in Chicago) are drawing acts that might have gone to once played in the boonies at Alpine Valley.

Wrigley Field

Look at some of the acts playing there, some are/were staples at Alpine Valley.

Alpine Valley
In the middle of the night
six strings down
on the heaven bound flight
Got a pick, a strap, a guitar on his back
Ain't gonna cut the angels no slack
Heaven done called another blues stringer back home
