Every summer I usually come up with a playlist/mix of ABB songs and other artist that might revolve around a certain genre, theme ,era, etc that we listen to while cooking out, during gatherings of friends of just having a couple of cocktails with my wife. This year In honor of Dickey touring i am doing one mix of Wipe The Windows Check The Oil,Dollar Gas and the live cuts from the deluxe version of Bros and Sisters. The other is going to be from Evening With 1st and 2nd set, the unplugged IRSA, Play all night and Peakin At The Beacon. Probably at some point do some of his live solo stuff.

I also have a mix of Steve Earle,Bob Dylan,Johny Cash,Mellencamp and Gregg that is a standard every summer time.

Iíve always enjoyed Wipe the Windows - Iím a big fan of the Canít Lose What You Never Had off that album. Iíve been on a Jack binge of late cycling through 9/19/98, 8/13/05 with Jack subbing for Warren, and Les Brers 9/9/16. Jack is so inventive and has such unusual phrasing at times - heís such a treat to listen to and try to think along with. I know there have been a few rumblings about there being an official archival release with Jack on it and I really hope that comes to pass someday - fascinating player.

I have been doing the original versions of blues songs followed directly by the ABB cover of the same song. It is mostly by the final line-up because they did more covers at that point. I have lately tacked on some side-project stuff like the "Death Letter" with Warren from the DTB album, "32/20 Blues" by Mule, and "Goin' Down Slow" & "No Money Down" from the Duane anthologies. It's like a super fun history lesson.

My summer ABB list would be mostly deep cuts and alternate live versions: acoustic early '90s; a healthy does of Chuck Leavell (Chuck/Lamar lineup + Chuck's appearances with the Derek/Warren/Oteil lineup); live stuff from about every era and even couple live gems from 1981/1982 (acoustic Come & Go Blues, Never Knew How Much I Needed).....and some of my favorite alternate Duane era live stuff including the Fillmore Box.

I have a mix that is a few hours worth without any repeats I'll pull out for cooking out, road trip and hanging at the beach next month.

Surprisingly, my spring and summer have been dominated by Dan Auerbachís album ďWaiting On A Spng.Ē

Funny thing is, at first listen I didnt even like it. Texted my friends about how it was lite rock fluff.

Now, itís my favorite album of the year, hands down. I love it. Itís fun and sounds great. Perfect summer record.

I'm partial to the original line up and as I say; it is the REAL Allman Brothers. That line up was a high energy with an attitude and we ride Harley Davidson motorcycles outfit. So I'm playing from the front line releases lots of Fillmore East and Eat A Peach. Brothers and Sisters is a favorite but all albums after Eat A Peach have a different vibe and energy. Occassionlay I like hearing the early 90s so I put on Play All Night. I have a couple of the Jack Pearson period I play from time to time and one has a version of Dimples and Jack and Dickey are kicking it. I have a video of Derek and Dickey in 1999 in Las Vegas that is very cool. Also lately I've been playing my CD copy of the first Govt Mule record with just Warren, Matt and Allen.

And I have some other artists I enjoy this summer.

I have been listening to the 1996 tour on you tube and they sound fantastic playing new songs that never made an Allman Brothers album and went on Dickey last album in 2001 I believe. The Brothers would have recorded amazing versions of those songs.

Iíve been listening to Big Star and to that new Greta Van Vleet. This thread inspired me to put ďCheck the OilĒ in the car to help my commute.

"Tombstone Eyes" was a nice tune, so it was pretty disappointing to hear the weird Bon Jovi-esque arrangement on Let's Get Together. But damn, Dickey was on a wah pedal kick and it just did not fit.
