I haven't really said much about this because I didn't want to jinx myself, but I have quit drinking as of September 12. I've made it 30 days as of today. Might as well fess up. I'm a sober man now.

A nice side benefit has been dropping weight. I hit an all time high of 265# recently and have generally been feeling fat, lethargic and unhealthy lately. I was 254# this morning and feel better already. I hope to drop another 34# or so. If I can get down to 220#, I think I'll be alright. I got a physical tomorrow, so we'll see what the doc has to say about my health.

It's not near as difficult as I thought it would be, although I have to admit, a cold beer would taste good! But, if I have one, I'll have six or eight. It was time....

Good luck Dave..be strong

Take it one day at a time my friend. I just recently hit 9 months and plan on keeping it going in the right direction. There are friends of Bill W. everywhere, and good friends indeed. Congratulations and hope all is well.

Dave - So very happy for you! Keep it in the moment - you just have to do it for the day. WTG on the weight stuff too! Nice to remember what you do the next day - and not have a head the size of Mt. Rushmore!

Proud of you, my friend

Proud of you Dave !! I used to drink regularly (pretty heavily) but one New Year's Day after our oldest son was born, I just decided that this is not the way to be a Dad. I also agree that when I go to a concert, there's nothing wrong with a drink, but as stated earlier, when I'm in a rocking chair when I'm 80 (God willing), I'll be able to remember every little detail of all those great musical moments that I experienced !

Way to go !!! Hope to see you down the road again (& under better circumstances).

pat

Way to go Big Dave. 15 years sober this Halloween, but I don't want to crow about it. I know one would send me over the edge too.

Good for you, Dave. While I drank a bunch when I was younger, I guess I never hit my "trigger point." I've always been able to take it or leave it. I like being aware of my surroundings, so being drunk in public is out for me. I'll drink two beers on an evening out, three if someone else is driving. But I do also like my pipe.

With the economy the way it is, though, these days I'm thinking about getting drunk again.

30 days is now five weeks.

Allen, there really wasn't a trigger point for me. I just got tired of the old ways. I wanted a change. I have to admit, though. I miss the taste of a cold beer.

Good for you Dave! I'm glad you are successful in your endeavor!!!

If you are jonesing for the taste of a beer, buy some O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer and ice them down good. I never thought I would like something like that, but I tried one not too long ago and it tasted very good. Got to be nice and cold!
