Personally I prefer the song Oh Beautiful for a national anthem, rather than a song embracing war mongering which our national anthem does. But nowadays Oh Beautiful could never become our national anthem because of it's reference to 'God shed his grace on thee, and crowned thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea'. God isn't welcomed in America except at Chatom Ford in Alabama.

https://www.chron.com/news/article/Alabama-Ford-dealer-s-gun-giveaway-is-ba ck-on-14058442.php

And even at Ford, the muckety mucks stepped in and wanted them to stop talking about God, guns, glory. Focus more on the hunting aspect, not that people will defend their land, selves property with a nice rifle from Chatom, after they hang their American flag and of course read their Bible once in while. God is not welcome in America anymore.

Our national anthem glorifies shooting rockets. If we were not a war like nation, we could have made peace with the Indians, learned a thing or two about farming/agriculture and not polluting the land. Why couldn't we have shared the land with them? Whose way was correct theirs or ours? We're now eating GMO corn and food and those damn mexican vegetables.....

The issue though is should she have pledged allegiance, and I think all citizens have to do that for whatever nation they are citizens of. They don't have to sing along if they don't want to but they should show some respect for where they live.

Me too, much prettier song, celebrating the land.

You are incorrect on the Star Spangled Banner being secular. The Star Spangled banner has a verse about God:

Bless'd with victory and peace, may our Heaven-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation
Then conquer we must, for our cause it is just --
And this be our motto -- "In God is our trust!"

And the Star-spangled Banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Because they were heathens who didn't believe in your god.

That's quite the condescending statement towards athletes. Give them the credit that they are due. They are certainly as smart and free thinkers as say...those who post on websites. Maybe it's that their position just doesn't align with yours? No need to scapegoat the media.

It's just the impression I get from most of the folks that kneel during the anthem or refuse to go to the White House. I'm sure I'm wrong. I do respect a good soccer player for playing good soccer. Or a good quarterback for playing good football. I have trouble with athletes and actors that think because they're good at what they do any intelligent person will give a rats butt about their politics. It's just their way of protest is often disrespectful to the country to the flag or to the office of the President. That really causes me to respect them less. If you don't want to go to the White House don't go. Why do you need to tell everybody why you didn't want to go? And to further my point why the profanity? That's a good role model for your kids.

The role model argument left the building when Trump took center stage. Rapinoe is a saint compared to the #1 role model in the country, the President. Why should anyone in a free society owe one iota of respect to a president who shows nothing but disrespect? F*ck that noise.

They are protesting certain aspects or individuals, not the whole country, or all the flag represents. The flag represents their right to use the flag as protest. A tired point by now. A paradox indeed.

I never know who any of these people are until rightwingers stsrt hollering about them. Even then for me its "oh a basketball player is registering dissent, good for him, still a free country," and move on as quick as I heard it. Reagan, Bush, used to comment on protests as being a sign of a free country. It's a GOOD THING, man, as All American as it gets!

Not a complete fool/tool. Maybe partial. Remember she doesn't support the president.

Let's be honest here. You don't like what she said and that's why you don't like it. It seems like those around here that are always complaining when a celebrity voices an opinion are the same ones who are first to share an open letter by Charlie Daniels. Those that complain about the office of the president not being respected went on and on about Obama's birth certificate with Trump leading the charge even after the birth certificate was produced. She has every right to express an opinion, especially when she was just answering a question. When so many athletes decide that they don't want to meet the president, maybe you should ask yourself why instead of immediately reacting as if they insulted your mother. Some people are better than others at spotting false patriotism.

Just to clarify - you're not saying that "5 deferments Don" and a bone spur is not patriotic?

Megan, Charlie, Colin & Robert Di Niro, The list is endless......Could care less about the political views they share. Athlete, musician or actor. Just because you have a voice that projects or a podium, does not mean you're immune to the criticism. Think your opinion is important enough to share?. Be prepared for dissent. I think it is the size of their egos that irritates me the most.

Donald Trump.

Class act.

quote:
I moved on her, and I failed. I'll admit it.

I did try and f**k her. She was married.

And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, "I'll show you where they have some nice furniture." I took her out furniture—I moved on her like a bitch. But I couldn't get there. And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she's now got the big phony tits and everything. She's totally changed her look.

I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her. You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful—I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab 'em by the pu**y. You can do anything.

How do I cure Cat Scratch Fever?

Cat-scratch disease - To prevent cat-scratch disease
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after playing with your cat...
Play gently with cats so they don't scratch and bite.
Don't allow a cat to lick your skin, eyes, mouth, or open wounds or scratches.
Use flea control measures to lower the risk your cat develops the disease.
Don't touch feral cats.

Yeah KC, I am not sure I can follow Your logic here, are You saying I should raise my 3 boys and 1 girl to respect the kind of person who defraud's business partners, contractors, suppliers, workers and customers? The kind of person who proudly and gleefully brags that he sexual assaults women without their consent? The kind of person who openly mocks a handicapped person? Man I appreciate Your view point, but I think I will keep raising my kids to try and be considerate, kind and understanding to others and to not be afraid to stand up and tell that type of person to "Go Puck himself"..........Peace.......joe

I was an athlete in my youth and loved playing many sports and think they have their place in our society, but I've grown a bit tired of this nations obsession with sports teams.

I've always thought the whole invite the latest greatest sports team to the White House to acknowledge their accomplishments is tacky as f*ck. But your mileage may vary....
