Is China really 20? I guess I'd have to craft my own list to come up with something to see. Says they ranked 80 countries - kind of interested to see an entire list rather than just 20, the link didn't show all of them.

Legilizhemp just was in Australia for a bit I think, not sure if he ever recapped his time there?

I've only ever traveled to Canada and Mexico. I'm sure some would say that I'm too narrow minded and not enlightened enough, eh whatever - I'd take living in the USA over any other. One thing I wish we could be more like Switzerland on, "no desire to meddle in world's affairs".

Totally subjective, doesn't mention criteria. What, softness of toilet paper? Best internet service? Chrome appliances? WTF-ever! Germany? ? Really?
? Sieg frekin heil already! Chills, shudder, not my cup of tea. And the top few countries are also where the most arrogant @ssholes live imo. The Swiss are pretty much for real Nazis, not just wannabes's like the ones we have here, who in reality behave more like unruly thirdworlders, you know, those excitable equatorials who never pick up their trash unless they are rooting around in vast dumps. Riiii-co-laaaa!!! Don't even get me started on Toblerone.

I would take Sapa in North Vietnam out in the Hmong hills over any of them, glad it isn't listed, will keep outsiders out, prices low. Best kept secret on the planet. Mild climate year round - people friendly, honest, clean, still have souls, not all technofried and vain, low low cost of living, great food . . . oh I forgot folks here are squeamish about dog nevermind.

I will be posting from there before ten years out, winds of fate allowing.

Arf.

Switzerland is nice. Stayed there a week and had a blast. Clean, basically litter free, vehicles in good condition, nice people, good food, pretty women.

At one time (maybe still does), it had the highest HIV infection rate in Europe due to drug users. No place is perfect even the good ol' USA.

I've visited 72 countries. Saying what is best is completely subjective. I can't think of a single place in the entire world that I would rather live than California. On the other hand, if Texas was a country it would be way down the list. It's all relative, and immigration policy is way down the list in what I would consider important in deciding what country is the best to live in. Much more important are friendly people, good weather, things to do, scenery, number of concerts that visit my area, employment opportunities, absence of police corruption, safety, good food, clean air and water, ability to do well for myself, etc. As long as where I live is safe, things such as gun control, abortion, taxes, military spending what football players do on the sideline,, and just about every other hot issue that gets argued about here has little real importance on my quality of life.

Exactly. Even in California it's Bakersfield vs. Monterey. There are a lot more hellholes in California than not. You're right though, some of the most magic and pretty country on the planet.

hi guys

I was in Canberra, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canberra , in spring and early summer. i would like to say that it is a planned city. Mainly it is suburbs, with large malls as the main hubs for commerce. There are also small shopping areas for groceries and food joints. They do not have gas stations or strip malls everywhere. Then main city center is in 2 parts, one is Gov't buildings and Museums and Embassies, the other is a downtown area not unlike our own. They are separated by a large man made lake. Actually there are 3 large lakes in Canberra and also many mountains. There are also walking and biking paths everywhere, and i mean everywhere. There are lots of parks and playgrounds also.

Kangaroos sometimes come into the city. I saw a dead one right behind the house i was staying at, hit by a car. Called animal removal and they came out that day. Spiders are also a problem as some are poisonous. Snakes are also a problem as they are poisonous too. Magpies, and Doves and Parrots, Cockatoos are common too, large birds in general. Eucalyptus, olive, lemon trees along with cactus and yucca plants also.

Houses are close together so there isn't much of a yard. Mainly hard rock/pebbles. Also homes are very expensive, 300k and up. Now granted it is 75-80 cents to one dollar, but still, housing is expensive. Most are built on slabs. https://www.allhomes.com.au/ .

The people, hmmm, the people are nice, kinda rural though? I mean, not rich and not poor? Uhmmm, there is not alot to do for the teenagers other than country type stuff? Sort of like small town middle america? Maybe like Indy in the 70's early 80's?

Drugs are bad there, but not as bad as in america. Now I have a nose for weed, I can smell it a mile away, and i didn't smell any. Even at the Midnight Oil show i went to. Meth and Heroin and Ecstasy are big there. Crime is crime, but they use bats and hatchets and nail guns. Bikers run the drug trade. Cigarettes are $25 a pack, this leads to smokes being as good as money. Robberies are committed just to steal smokes. Alcohol also is very expensive, a 1/5th of Jim Beam costs $60 .

I'm going back in March and again at Christmas. I know i have left out some things, so feel free to ask.

For the.cost of a couple packs you could start your own tobacco farm - the stuff grows anywhere. Spray with sugar hang it up to cure then sell it at the tavern.

Hemp, did you see any where near that area for offroad four wheeling recreation? I've read about four wheeling enthusiasts in the Australia and the automotive aftermarket industry there has made some pretty successful products that made their way to the states. A company called ARB is HQ outside Melbourne - they make differential lockers and they may be the most beloved lockers by offroad enthusiasts here in the states. Some other products have made their way here, vehicle recovery and lighting products off the top of my head. Good reputation, well engineered and very good quality.

one of the 1st things i noticed were all of the snorkels on the trucks. go 30 mins in any direction and you are in the bush. fishing is real big down there and camping. lots of lakes and rivers. lots of dirt roads outside of the city.

It is funny you mention the snorkels. If you pay attention occasionally notice them here. The need for 4x4 vehicles here that travel our roads to need a snorkel is pretty rare, kind of foreign. High water forging for a vehicle that is still street legal and drivable at 55mph is rare here. Most people here buy and put them on "just because". Maybe it is cool. Some say there is a 'ram air effect' of helping engine performance, which I tend to doubt.

But in a country like Australia, it is much less about looks and fashion and more about function.

I think Australia is a cool country. My family and I were set to travel there and New Zealand when I was a child. My mother came down with bad labyrinthitis and couldn't fly, we never rescheduled and at this point in my life I doubt I travel there. But I hold the country in good regard.

the more I read the less I find appealing outside the scenery. 25 dollar packs of smokes, destroying peoples rides for street racing. Sounds like a police state to me.

Domain reports Canberra’s median house price surged by 5 per cent over the December quarter to a new record high of $753,516.
