After seeing a lot of threads here lately relating to Cancer i have decided to post this. As many of you know I am a Cancer Survivor and am currently going through Radiation Treatments for a small bout of Cancer recently.

I was first diagnosed with throat Cancer in 1998 and several others since then. Did not asked for help from anyone except family members because everything was caught early! I have been very lucky. I also have been volunteering for American Cancer Societies Relay For Life Events since 2006. My sister lost an arm and both my parents have died from Cancer.

If you have never been to a Relay For Event, you need to try it at least once! The Events are usually held at local High Schools all around the Country and the world, usually on a School football field. There are campsites laid out at the edge of the track all around the field. Each site has a fundraising idea to raise money for the American Cancer Society, anywhere from cooking hamburgers and hot dogs to having items for sale such as shirts, pictures, all sorts of items. Monies that are raised are kept locally to help those who have cancer and families dealing with Cancer issues.

You really need to attend one if only for just a visit to see how much fun everyone is having. You don't have to run around the track, even though the kids like to, most people just walk. If you are planning on just a short quick visit to see what one is like, the best time would be just at dark when they have what is called a Luminaria Ceremoney. That's when they, and you can also, put candels in bags and light them in Memory of someone who has died or has had Cancer. Trust me......if you see this Ceremony you will be moved(emotionally!)

CANCER SUCKS and we need to find a Cure for this deadly disease. Thanks
Sonny

Have participated in many Relay for Lifes -- they're fun, they're about good health & the outdoors w/friends & it raises money for cancer research -- cancer is undetectable in its early stages, that's why it's such a ***** of a disease -- it got both my dad and my uncle (mom's brother), healthy at 67 & 58 respectively until this came along -- & continues to -- & unfortunately likely always will -- but the cause is the important thing & the Relay for Life & other events are vital

Likewise, my family has been touched by cancer many times. RFL is a very worthy cause and needs support.

One of the best benefits I have been personally involved with was a RFL fundy my motorcycle club sponsored in 2005 on behalf of a 4 year old leukemia patient by the name of CJ. The money we raised went to RFL in CJ's honor. I'm proud to say CJ is alive and healthy today. Cancer doesn't always have to win.

Here's a pic from the benefit. That's CJ in the purple shirt with his dad, Chris.

Very cool thread, Sonny. Almost every community has a Relay for Life. It should be easy to find one.

I am the only one in my family to get cancer. None of my three sisters, none of my aunts and uncles,
and none of my many first cousins. I hope I am the only one to ever get it in my family.

Sonny, where is your RFL this weekend? Good luck with that.
