Is it me or does something big/bad have to happen every week in Ameirca????

Oil Spills, time square bombings, tiger woods, Arizona border, medicare, Jesse James, Lady Gaga, orange crops freezing, tornadoes, flooding, foreclousres, tea parties...

Don't you folks ever just take some time off from bad news????

There are benefits to living in a small country and thats no matter how bad it is where I live you folks play the one up game like no other.

We're a really big country.....sort of like Europe all rolled into one. While most of the country is pretty calm, there's always some state somewhere that's going to be having a crisis. I would imagine if all the happenings in Europe were reported ad naseum like over here, you'd see that the whole world is chaotic. And the news people do love a good story.

I'm not too sure. Almost seems like the US media likes to make US issues bigger then anyone elses.

Millions are starving in Africa but wait breaking news Sandra Bullock adopted a baby.

Its just intersting how the media machine works in the US.

Yep we make news we don't just report it.... Then we beat it into the ground so advertisers can get more time blocks so the mindless can run to Walmart and spend their hard earned dollars on a company that treats it's employees as 1 step up from slave labor

Oh yeah and you can get a job without being a citizen or any legal status and people will march for you're right to do it

I see our free press as both one of this country's best features and also one of our worst. 24 hour 'news' has brought trivial stories to the forefront because they make advertising money while ignoring the more important things going on in the world. Maybe it's just me, but when I get my news, I don't like giggling reporters. News is news...it's not entertainment.

We have 300 million people so there are going to be a lot of stories. What are they going to report about Canada? How the Northwest Territories has no people in it?

I'm not dissing you I just find it interesting that every week in America the world is going to end. I'm suprised anyone smiles down there. I'd check my Kharma numbers if I were you guys.

If population was the factor then Canada would have 1 disaster to every 10 of yours. Thankfully we don't.

Probably has something to do with gun control.

I know people being directly affected by the floods in the Nashville area as we speak, tornados took some lives over the weekend, orange growers are farmers like anyone else and once your crop is trashed it takes a year or more to recover and I'd say one of the biggest oil spills in history heading to important natural areas of the country and a moron almost blowing people up with a car bomb in Time Square is slightly relevant. Great stuff coming from America's hat!! Apparently you can't see the trees for the Queen's skirt.

leafsfan has a point about our mass media. The other day there was a gigantic headline about Katy Perry wearing blinky shoes.

I don't think I'd put Tiger Woods, Jesse James, Lady Gaga, Sandra Bullock or the Teabaggers in the category of "disasters".

Actually most Americans get their news from Jon Stewart which is why ratings are tanking on these cable news shows and nobody is buying newspapers anymore. Don't judge us by our media I beg you.

I agree. No worse than "near disasters."

I like Jon Stewart....he catches the ludicrous duality of what's going on in this country...and then we follow up with Colbert for another funny view of what's going on. I tend to think they exhibit more truth with humor than most of the other stations do with 'news.' Olbermann and Maddow bring other view points and to be honest, try as I might, I just can't watch anything on FOX....and believe me, that's about all the televisions have on in the doctor's offices so I've tried.
