which one is your favorite and why?
Inst Illness,Egypt,Bag end,Little martha>Blue sky> Little martha ( I consider this a new inst cause of the way they structured it)
I will go with Egypt,it really showcases this band the best as it builds up momentum with power and grace. |

With all due respect, I don't think a medley of two songs that were literally written before Derek was born is an appropriate answer to this question. Just my opinion.
I love Egypt, but Bag End really grew on me at the Palace this year. I'll go with Bag End, especially since he was the primary writer, unlike Egypt. |

As an ABB fan, I thought the Little Martha/Blue Sky was fabulous. I don't really care when the tunes were written. Given the list of four songs written by the original poster, Illness comes next then Egypt then Bag End. The latter would be a great tune for DTB to stretch out on, but I did not especially care for the ABB version. ____________________

Egypt has all of the vibe of the original instrumentals mostly written by Dickey but played by the original lineup. Therefore it is my favorite, followed by Illness. I don't care for the Little Martha in any of its incarnations the way it is played by Derek and Warren. It sounds best acoustic. I'm all for finding new interpretations of old ABB tunes. But this one should either not be messed with and played straight up the way it was written. Or they should just tease it in their solos and leave it there, which is a fitting way to give Duane a nod. ____________________

I think it was certainly an appropriate answer to the four songs listed in the question. I think what my friend Rob may have meant to say was that it probably shouldn't have been listed in the question in the first place as really a comparison of Instrumental Illness, Eygpt and Bag End might have been more appropriate than throwing Blue Sky in that mix.
With that in mind, I'm going to say Egypt. Glad they brought it back. That song really reaches some fantastic heights...

Of course I love the Blue Sky instrumental. When they brought back Blue Sky briefly in 2004/early 2005, Derek really nailed the light jammy essense of the original. He does again in the instrumental versions.
Of the three newer instrumentals, Bad End grabbed me the most for sure. ____________________ Tim L. |

Bag End, but Egypt is a close 2nd... Warren's solos get just a little too bombastic for my taste on the versions of Egypt I've heard... |
