Sarah Palin: Smoking Pot Is No Big Deal

http://www.aolnews.com/politics/article/sarah-palin-smoking-pot-is-no-big-d eal/19521768

(June 18) -- Sarah Palin says recreational pot smoking is "relatively speaking a minimal problem" in America.

Mara Gay Contributor

In an otherwise uneventful appearance on the Fox Business Network with Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, Palin said that while she doesn't believe marijuana should be legalized, the country has bigger fish to fry.

"I think we need to prioritize our law enforcement efforts," she said. "If somebody's gonna smoke a joint in their house and not do anybody any harm, then perhaps there are other things our cops should be looking at to engage in and try to clean up some of the other problems we have in society."

Allen St. Pierre, the director of NORML, which supports liberalizing drug laws, said Palin's position on pot is perfectly in line with her identity as a politician.

"If you're a populist as she appears to be, it's maybe not that surprising," he told AOL News in a phone interview today.

But has the former Republican vice presidential candidate ever lit up a joint?

You betcha. In Alaska, it was legal to smoke small amounts of marijuana until four years ago, and Palin has said that she's tried it but didn't like it.

"I can't claim a Bill Clinton and say that I never inhaled," she told the Anchorage Daily News in 2006.

I wonder if that'll change any minds around here....

probably not.

since this thread will probably get the usual Palin subscribers, I also wonder if anyone would like to comment on the current book Barack Obama is reading, written by a Muslim, entitled, " The Post America World".

edit for sp.

That is the very first single thing I have ever agreed with that woman on although I do think pot should be legalized. I still think she is a whackadoo on all other issues though.

First of all, I wish Palin has smoked a heck of a lot more pot than she did. That being said.....here's a little bit about that 'book' Obama is reading......sounds as if it's a thought provoking book worthy of consideration. Based on the description, I don't see what the problem is with Obama reading it:

"The Post-American World is a non-fiction book by Indian American journalist Fareed Zakaria. It was published in hardcover and audiobook formats in early May 2008 and became available in paperback in early May 2009. In the book, Zakaria argues that, thanks to the actions of the United States in spreading liberal democracy across the world, other countries are now competing with the US in terms of economic, industrial, and cultural power. While the US continues to dominate in terms of political-military power, other countries such as China and India are becoming global players in many fields."

Same here and I hope we'll get legalization, and soon.

There's an article in there that gives more description of the book in question and the author:

thanks ann. I should've known that any disparaging remarks about beloved Obama would draw some serious background info. Background info I should've done myself before posting and not taking the word of someone I was talking to on the phone, who I have since called back and thanked her for jammin' me up.

(she's sorry too...)

next time, I'll be more careful...

Why would it? I'm sure all sorts of terrible people have smoked pot.

This does not surprise me though. She had to have been high when she chose those names for her kids!

I always told my wife that if we'd had a girl I'd want to name her Potassium. It seems to me to be the perfect name for a girl. My wife didn't buy into it though.

If you've been reading my posts you know that I've been critical of Obama lately and I don't mind legitimate criticism, but this book thing went around a while back and I already checked into it after getting a few 'let's be scared' emails about the subject. If reading about other points of view or ideas makes us suspect, then watch out for everyone who read Mein Kampf.

No, I haven't been reading your posts. No slight toward you at all Ann. Most topics here bore me and I find them fruitless and loaded with irony and achieving no end. We elect officials to resolve the very issues you all discuss. I occasionally interject an often ignored remark but other than that, I have my hands full warding off cave dwelling bedouins in the NFL thread, the misguided goat herders that they are...

It shouldn't be all too surprising that Ms. Palin didn't like the effects of marijuana. After all, deep thought, introspection, expanded consciousness, etc. do seem like foreign emotions to her. Under the influence she's most likely way out of her comfort zone. And that's not a nice place to be for anyone.

Lighten up. She'd probably be fun stoned and naked. Give credit where credit is due (as long as she didn't talk incessantly and as long as she had no access to firearms)

What does that have to do with Palin? She's not hot and she might be smoking crack or meth but not weed.

Lighten up? I didn't realize I was being "heavy." My post was just an observation. Palin seriously strikes me as someone who would not enjoy the "deep thought" that sometimes results from the use of ganja. It's too foreign to her.
