Back in early 2008, I decided to jump into this vining thing for the very first time. I did so because I wanted to offer up a couple shows that I really liked just to give back a bit for some of the many fine live shows that I have received from the many generous folks here.

After doing those two shows, I thought .."OK. That was fun. I'll do a couple more." And that couple more became a couple more and a couple more again.

Now, two years down the road, and 100 vines later, I have decided that the time has come for me to step back from vining and active trading for awhile. I have some other things going on in my life that are beginning to take up more and more of what little free time I have right now, and I also have a ton of uncatalogued (and many unlistened to) shows that I'd like to try to find some time to explore and archive in the coming months.

You would think that vining and collecting shows would not be so time consuming, but it easily takes a life of its own and in my case, it has become just a bit of a monster. I just gotta cut back for awile.

I think I've accomplished what I originally wanted to do. I've managed to give back enough music to balance out (and then some) the many fine shows that I've acquired from this site and from the many fine folks who trade and share here.

I also think I've seeded some high quality shows by a few artists who have not previously been represented here. Folks like Tom Waits, Glass Harp, Loudon Wainwright III, Leo Kottke, Doc Watson, Uncle Tupelo, Squeeze, The Good Rats, Dick Dale, The Ramones, The Mermen, Les Paul, Warren Zevon, Dr. John, Jonathan Edwards, and R.E.M. among others.

Your enthusiastic response to these shows has been very gratifying to me. I listen to a lot of different genres of music as well as a multitude of different artists and it has been a real pleasure to turn you on to some artists who you may not have had a chance to hear live before (or at all).

And I've had a chance to meet, chat and converse with some really cool folks via my vines as well. There are so many fellow music fans who I've gotten to know and become friends with via vining (and trading) that I didn't want to start mentioning names lest I leave someone out. But special thanks would have to go to TanDan (Rory on brother!), Robertson, crazy_fingers, HughDuty, KWidgeon, DREWALEX, Corny, Rickna, PhilBNY, Stephane, CharlieTaber, Brewster, RaymondLuxuryYacht, and Barry Smith. (And very sorry if I left someone out.)

Thanks to all of you for taking the time to send back thank yous and positive comments regarding my vines. I love talking music so your favorable responses and comments were always very much appreciated.

Thank you for sending me back totally unnecessary "thank you" packages of music that you almost made me feel guilty accepting. Here I was trying to pay you all back and you're sending me even more stuff! But that is part of the beauty of this thing called music sharing. You give freely and you end up getting back more than you give. Every time. What a great concept. And what a great bunch of folks you are.

And I'm not saying that I'm fully retiring here. I'll be back eventually. In a few months or so. And if I do happen to come across a really, really special show, I just might make a one time exception.

We'll see. In the meantime, thank you all for everything. It's really been a lot of fun. Really.

Peace and take care to all of you...

Andrew

hmmm...so the challenge becomes to vine such a special show as to draw Andrew back in...must think...

i have a rule, well, a guideline, really, to try to be on no more than three vines at a time. makes the whole thing more manageable.

thanks Andrew, we'll see you around here soon enough, i think. too much good music going 'round

Actually, I meant if I found something special that I felt needed to be vined in the meantime, I might make an exception. But your point is well taken as I've managed to sign up for 3 vines just this weekend. Which is part of the problem. I have too much stuff that I still need to listen to and file and archive.

I really need to stop vining AND acquiring for a bit .

But the fact is that thanks to all of us, there is too much good music going 'round here.

This is going to be harder than I thought.
