I haven't been to a Phish show in years. Only one that I can really remember for some reason was one at Alpine Valley. We were in the lawn and this smoking hot hippie chick kept getting up on this dude's shoulders. Which started out being annoying, but then she started flashing us...by the end of the set she had stopped the flashing and just went toppless....

Maybe I should go to more Phish shows...

I went to the Phish show at MSG with my son last year and found it incredibly boring and tedious.....there are very few shows I ever say that about..I was actually surprised because I had looked forward to it....when my son told a few of his friends that we didnt enjoy it ,they asked....well,what drugs were you on???.....

From what I've been reading 2009 seems to have been an off year for Phish... Apparently they were still trying to get their mojo back after breaking up back in 2004.

I went to the PHISH show last night as well, and i liked it alot, I've seen them before in 96'
and 2002 as well. But that 1st set last night was incredible, i mean everybody was shaking and grooving.
That's the undeniable thing that if everybody is dancing, it's gotta be good and it was.
Hat's off to the venue staff for letting people have fun and dance in the isles.
The Charlotte PHISH show was one of the best show's i've seen in awhile.
Also going to see MULE/Jackie Greene and 2 nights of PANIC this month.
The bar is set very high to beat PHISH last night, we'll see.

They rocked CMAC 'there's some folk who like licorice and there are some folk who really like licorice'.. j.garcia.

I love the ABB & GDead. Phish is one of those bands that slowly creeps up on ya, grows on ya type bands. Like when I first started listening to the Dead! I'm still trying to get into the lyrics which are often my stumbling block. Trey Anastasio is a pretty talented & wild guitarist (imo)

went to the Great Woods show 6/22 and had a blast.

heard the 7/02 show - you caught a hot one!

they still haven't returned to their peak from the 90s (pick whatever era you like best) but they're still putting on damn good shows.

I've seen Phish, I like Phish, i respect Phish, I have plenty of live Phish. I don't get the criticism that they receive here.

Having said that, I have been listening to the ABB at UPT 3/18, 3/19, and 3/20 quite a bit lately, and I think the ABB in this incredibly short run served it up hot and right. I would be curious to hear the recent Phish, because nothing I've heard from them rivals 2010 ABB.

And Derek Trucks to me is the live MVP more than any member of Phish.

I like Phish, especially their jamming. I first got into them through friends, just after Jerry died. Saw my 1st show in '96 and was very impressed. Saw 2 in '97 and was equally impressed. Saw 2 in '99 and it was like seeing a different band, just mundane, no real effort in the jams, Trey was mainly holding 9th chords, getting a nice funk groove, but never taking off, like I heard him earlier. My friends bombarded me with live shows, from their earliest days to then present. For me, '95-97 represent what I think is their best period. Friends talked about '93 or other earlier years, but it seems as a unit, the four all improvising with each other was best in that '95-'97 period, for me at least. The earlier years, Trey was more out front all the time, but I think he found a way to make him self part of the unit by '94 or '95. I'm somewhat apprehensive to see them again, but have been hearing a lot of positive reviews. If tickets weren't so hard to come by, I would go see them in Berkeley. I'm still hardly an expert on their songs and I do dislike some of their gimmicky songs, like Tweezer or Harry Hood, but I don't think there is a rock unit that can jam like they do, get lost in the music and take chances the way that they do, when they're at the top of their game. I guess I'll download this 7/4 show and check them out again.

Don't get me wrong Phish fans have given people plenty of reasons over the years for people to dislike and rag on them but I never really understood how people on this site (who clearly understand music and what it is) continually fail to see the difference between the scene and the music. Musically, this band is absolutely back. And while they're completely different from what the Dead was, the idea of the show's "flow" and what kind of a night you're going to get is quite the same. One would think alot of people coming from the Dead's generation would be able to differentiate the two aspects of this band.

Don't get me wrong, I could care less what anyone thinks, that's the beauty of opinions, I just don't understand the wall people throw up immediately when discussions regarding Phish come up.

For what it's worth, every member of that band can play circles around 95% of musicians out there. You don't have to like it, but you ALSO DO NOT have to be on drugs to appreciate it and enjoy it.

Personally,I don't see why some people can't accept the fact that some folk's just don't like Phish...period. I've tried to get into them over the years, but just don't care for their songs. It has nothing to do w/the "scene(whatever that is).I don't like the vocals & Trey's playing doesn't do a thing for me. statements like "every member of that band can play circles around 95% of musicians out there." are laughable to me. There are many great players around...& a lot of them i don't like either, but,so what? I don't slam anyone for liking the band,I just personally don't.....We all hear things differently....I wonder if people here go to a Phish site & continually post about the ABB & expect everyone to love them...& then just "not get it" if they don't...doubtful.

THAT is some funny chit...and it ain't worth much. While they seem to be decent musicians, to my ears, most of the lyrics to their songs are just ridiculous compared to other bands. They're like some big inside joke that, frankly, a lot of folks just don't get.

But, if that's the way you want to blow your money, then enjoy!

So THAT'S why I like Phish so much better now! I used to feel the same way, but now that I've sat through two WSP shows, Phish's songwriting seems so much more mature and meaningful in comparison...
