The Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House is so proud and pleased to announce that Duane Allman's '57 Gold Top is now on display until the end of August. This guitar was played on the first two ABB albums, at Love Valley and the Atlanta Pop Festival, and on the historic "Layla" album - thanks to the courtesy of Scott Lamar, the current owner of the guitar, and the efforts of E.J. Devokaitis, curator of the museum, as well as Peggy Thompson and Jimmy Wells, you can see the guitar that Duane owned longer (early 1969 to September, 1970) than other any guitar he played with the ABB - the lashing notes of "Whipping Post," the ethereal slide on "Dreams," the melodic beauty of "Elizabeth Reed," the unforgettable opening riff of "Layla" and the blistering solo on "Why Does Love Got to Be so Sad" were played on this Les Paul - please come see it for yourself, and enjoy this special instrument as we mark the 40th anniversary of "Idlewild South" and "Layla" - the Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House is open Thurday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 - 5:00, and Sunday from 11:00 - 5:00 - please visit www.thebighousemuseum.org, or call 478-741-5551 - also check out www.duaneallmansgoldtop.com - more info to come...

Well done sir, yeah I'd love to just be let alone with it for about 3 hrs. The mojo in that thing is probably just oozing out.

I actually just bought a 60's Les Paul faded sunburst yesterday.

I stopped in Macon for a day last Saturday on my way back from Hilton Head and it is indeed there....I saw it with my own two eyes and it was beautiful. The Big House was great and I also ate lunch at the H and H and went to Rose Hill too. There is very little in terms of ropes at the Big House and I could have stayed there forever....very cool!!! Seeing Elizabeth Reed's grave in person was also something to behold.
