These are 2 of my son's favorite musicians, so we are going to see them Sept. 20 in Atlanta at the Center Stage. Anyone seen this tour yet? Want to know what to expect, mostly tunes from his solo disc? Or a mix with G&R and Alterbridge tunes. Tickets were only $30 a piece, general admission.

Also, anyone been to Center Stage in Atlanta? Parking? Nice sound and view? Thanks.

not sure on the tour info, but the venue is one of atlanta's best, imho. it holds about 1000 peeps. wide & tall stage, nice open floor area, and killer stadium type elevated seating, can't be more than 10-12 rows. it's very intimate, and not a bad seat in the house. great sound too. y'all will have a blast.

I don't think they are doing any Alterbridge stuff.

The set lists I have seen are all Slash solo, GnR, Velvet Revolver and Slash's Snakepit stuff.

What downsouth said. Centerstage is one of the best venues in Atlanta. In many ways I prefer the vibe and locale of the Variety Playhouse, but Centerstage is much better strictly from an audience sound/line-of-sight perspective. Saw many a great show there back in the late-80s and very early 90s, before pro wrastlin' took over the place.

As far as parking, there is covered parking underneath the building, but it's kind of expensive. There are also nearby pay lots - one across the street and another down the street about a block. I haven't been there in awhile, but at least back in the day it wasn't all that difficult to luck into free street-parking. It's also very close to the Arts Center MARTA station (as well as Hotel Granada for out-of-towners).

I would love to see this and tickets are pretty cheap for the Terminal show in NYC. May have to check this out but not sure. Between the ABB, NYE Mule tickets to buy, and the Black Crowes and Hot Tuna coming I doubt I can swing them all. Tough decisions!!!

also - Center Stage serves liquor, not just beer & wine.

Zambi, we were probably at some of the same shows back then.

(a couple of things that bug me about the Variety Playhouse: a balcony so far away, beer & wine only, & all the theater seats; but so many bands I dig play Variety instead due to their ATL promoters or whomever I guess.)

I'd love to see NMAS play a couple nights at the Center Stage, lots of room to move and groove!

I hope Slash adds Dallas to his tour at some point.

Just a few that stand out in my mind (without digging up old ticket stubs)

ARU/Steve Morse around 1990. (Wow, that one changed my life!)
Michael Hedges
John McLaughlin trio with Andy Summers Group (with Oteil, Jimmy Herring & Bruce Hampton in the audience)
Johnny Winter on his Winter of '88 tour
A few Follow For Now shows, including a NYE show. I remember Nihilist opened one FFN show I saw there and Michelle Malone another (w/ Drag the River?).

There's got to be some more I'm overlooking....

How about Gregg & Friends? I know I saw at least 2 or 3 of his Dec shows there in the early-mid 90's. I also saw the Church and Mighty Lemon Drops there about the same time. It is a fine venue and I could never figure out what happened. Maybe my tastes changed?

Speaking of lost ATL venues, what ever happened to the Atlanta Civic Center? I saw Phil & Friends there in the late 90's and since then, not much has ever been offered.

the civic center is still active, just not so much with "rock" groups, it's more gospel and r n b shows now--I saw Gladys Knight do a show there a couple of years ago, I never had seen her before. David Gray sold out last spring--he's at chastain on Monday and with ray lamontagne (sp?) & I think that one is sold out too, not easy these days. also a lot of city of atlanta events there.
