The ABB asked us to create a Facebook page for them and so we did -- come visit and let's see how many fans we can get by the next ABB show!

http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Allman-Brothers-Band/154610891221707

Hit that note,

Explain this process to me

I'm getting heat from the rest of the family because I'm the only one not on facebook. I guess I'll have to sign up since there's an ABB page....

<edit>

and btw. my image has been used w/ out the expressed written consent of me/myself/I. Lawsuits will follow.

Rowland, now that the page has 25 members, you can apply for a user name for the facebook page. You can name it what you like and that is what the link will read. For example - theOfficialAllmanBrothersBand or TheOfficialAllmanBrothersBandPage - which will give you a direct FB url instead of the numbers. I suggest using the word Official because there are many Allman Brothers groups and pages out there.

http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=383008189821

You can read the directions at the above link.

I also suggest updating it with pertinent info. Some of the other pages/groups have questions regarding Gregg's health so that might be nice to let people know about, in addition to the tour dates.

I signed up, but I thought there was another ABB page before this one?

I've never been on facebook. Never started one and never will. Never been to anyone elses facebook place. I've never been on myspace. I've never twitted. Why would anyone give someone a hard time about that?

And I cant for the life of me understand why, if you have a nice comprehensive website like this, the ABB would need some little facebook thing?

Thanks & Great Rowland!

Lovely to see the Allman Brothers Band love being spread around.

I love keeping in touch with my family via FB. Its a nice place with nice folks and no blue meanies!

I still wish the Peach Corps would have taken off more. That's a neat site too.

Not everyone wants to join in the web that exists here. Some people are incidental fans and just want some updated info about the band. Some people just want to write a line or two of encouragement or say they didn't like a show or something without having a group of people admonish them. It is a whole different thing that this style of message boarding.

Yes you can interact on a FB board of a band too, but generally detailed conversations do not happen. If they do happen, they tend to happen on YOUR FB page and people respond to you.

If you want a place on the web to share your interests, for example the ABB or other bands you like, you can do it on your FB page. You can also share links of interest to you such as political items or newsworthy local happenings. It is a very interactive site. You can also block people you don't want to interact with at all.

You can make your social network as social or as isolated as you want. You can have "friends" you don't really know but share music with or you can keep it for just your real friends and family and share photos privately, only with them. It is a very interesting concept and you can check it out and see if you dig it, or you don't have to check it out or you can check it out and not like it at all, but know what it is about.

Hard time in a joking way. It's the new family network for news and info. Add to it that I rarely bother with e-mail & they think I'm missing out. I'm not technically challenged, social networking just isn't my thing.

Think I posted on phishhook, maybe here, that an old friend recently opened up a FB account. He told me "I can't understand why all these people are friending me. I don't remember any of them."

(high school drug daze)

<edit>

Guess I should edit, this is a social network. At least I don't have to read what time my cousin walked the dog here.

Anyone who hasn't tried Facebook doesn't know what it is, so they can't know what they are missing. I like it. I don't friend anyone I don't personally know, unless they are from this site. I have friends from high school, friends from around here where I live, especially all the musicians I know, friends from this website, and it is really cool to have all of their posts, links to videos, etc, on my home page every time I look at it. My son, Mother, and ex-wife are all on Facebook. I honestly think it is about the coolest thing on the web. Now that Rowland has set up a site there, it is even better. I hope someone here updates it every day. Lots of artists, and we all know some of them, post on their pages every day. Todd Smalley, Yonrico, Doug Gray, Kermit Ruffins, George Porter, Jr, are just a few of the artists who I see posts from on a regular basis. I'm looking forward to seeing what Rowland does with the page. It's all good whatever he does.

I'll be signing on for the ABB content & I imagine it'll lead me down the road to things I couldn't care less about.

I need to start a farm right? And get the friends I don't remember to send me tools & seeds etc.

What they really need is a Fans of ABB page. The Mule and the Derek and Susan Band and the Grace Potter Band all have a FANS of... page and this is just ever so much better than an official page, IMHO, because then you get the FAN-centric news and often quicker than the OFFICIAL page's updates.

Some musicians are serious facebookers. Peter Frampton is always on facebook. Jackie Greene too. And Joe Bonamassa.

For those who question why bands create social media pages, it's simple. Exposure. Why limit your reach to just a website?

I can understand how the phenomenon can seem ridiculous to those who don't understand, but the same can go for folks 15 yrs ago and the internet. As technology and communication evolve, so do the users.

FB is also great for mobile access. Try loading this website on an iPhone or Android. Yeah, you can see it, but it's not mobile-friendly.

Well, I've noticed the person who manages those FB sites sometimes gets the info out about the band/artist quicker than some official band sites do. :-) And the site is not just fan-centric, but band-centric too.

I just love you GoodCleanPhun. You bemoan a person's efforts, but you too can actually take some time out of your busy life, you know, instead of doing the things that make you you, and try to get some info out about the bands you love. No one stops you.

I love Gov't Mule, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Susan and Derek and the music they make.

I have found these wonderfully informative sites on Facebook. They are the kind of pages that get out the info, allow people to discuss the band and stuff related to the band, and allow fans to post items they would like to share with other fans. Further, real opinions are encouraged and only abusive/trollish behavior is not tolerated.

For Gov't Mule Fans
http://www.facebook.com/GovtMuleFans

For Grace Potter and the Nocturnals Fans
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=309376137722&ref=mf

For Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi Band Fans
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=310332788229&ref=mf
In fact there is a post up there right now that is relevant timely and of interest to west coast fans.
