I heard this rumored somewhere.

Band of Gypsys is the band's eponymous live album recorded on two separate nights, December 31,1969 and January 1,1970, at the Fillmore East.

Kinda makes sense:

New Years 69 - New Years 10
Fillmore East - Beacon Theater
NYC- NYC

Well Warren does Hendrix well.

But since it's the last Mule shows for a while, I would say go with 100% mule. I would be more likely to buy that as a Mule Tracks than anything laden with covers.

And frankly one of the weaknesses of the NYE shows has been that the Mule songs that get done are the ones that are always done. I think people would really dig all the songs that are almost never played. Take the newest cd and play back to the oldest. That is my dream for this New Years.

Hendrix can wait. Everybody does him and they did a lot of Hendrix over the years. I can see the Who for Halloween because they don't do Who songs that often, but Hendrix they have done a lot. I love Warren doing it but find it not that interesting. Not as interesting as an all Gov't Mule show since they won't be touring much in 2011.

Oh yeah I forgot the 2 problems. Jorgen would have to learn all the material and Warren would have to get all the lyrics together.

Angel ... interesting to read your point of view although I disagree with what you say. Love anything that the Mule does!

I wouldn't mind all Mule either but it's NYE and they are gonna do a theme. Hendrix was my initial guess and I will be more than happy with that as long as they work up some new stuff rather than just play the existing Hendrix stuff they have already done. Either way the Mule never disappoint on NYE. This will be #9 in a row for me!

NEW YEARS MESSAGE FROM GOV'T MULE
We've spent the last few months discussing different theme ideas for this year's New Year's Eve show at The Beacon Theatre in NYC. Of all the ideas that came up, we kept coming back to a theme we have been calling "Get Behind The Mule: Past, Present and Future." As part of Get Behind the Mule we will be looking to play The Ultimate Gov't Mule set list, and we would like our fans to have some input as to what songs we include.
We're asking you to vote for your favorite songs of ours, your favorite songs that we cover, and a few that you always wanted to hear us cover. We'll take all this feedback, and use it to help craft the 3 sets on New Year's Eve. We appreciate your help, and thanks again for all your support over the years.
See you in a few weeks.
-Warren, Matt, Danny, and Jorgen

Actually they are soliciting input for cover too, which is cool. Here's the full message.

We've (Gov't Mule) spent the last few months discussing different theme ideas for this year's New Year's Eve show at The Beacon Theatre in NYC.

We'd like you help us out by telling us:

* Your 10 Favorite Gov't Mule songs

* Your 5 Favorite Songs that Gov't Mule covers

* 5 Cover Songs you always wanted to hear Gov't Mule play

We'll collect all your feedback and use it to craft the Three Full Sets that will make up our New Years Eve show. All those who make song suggestions will be entered to win some prizes, including a NYE Poster signed by Gov't Mule, downloads for the full 3 show NYE run (12/28 in DC and the shows from NYC on the 30th & 31st) and more.

You can enter your votes here: https://musictoday2008.wufoo.com/forms/govt-mule-nye/

See you in a few weeks.-Warren, Matt, Danny, and Jorgen

The original message can be found on the Gov't Mule web site at this link: http://www.mule.net/news/index.php

~~~~~~~~~
It also doesn't seem like they are limiting the input to just people going to the show. So suggest away.
Last year it didn't end till 2:30am. It doesn't usually go quite that long. I would count on 1:30 am at the earliest.
It's gonna be fun. Can't wait. I hope they keep the covers to a minimum and have no guests. I just want the band and their songs. That is my Christmas wish. It's gonna be a year before I see them and that will make the last 2 shows for a while be remembered fondly.
I also hope they keep the covers down but they are sure to do some. I do hope they have at least a second guitar player, hopefully someone like Audley Freed. They need a second guitar not just for certain covers but also for some Mule originals especially from the 'Deep End' era when they recorded a few songs with two guitars. I would love to hear a song like 'Life On The Outside' which I saw them perform with Freed during one of the Deep End era shows I attended. I would bet they have at least one horn player on hand as well unless Danny just handles that job with his trumpet. It will be great regardless though as always!
anyone know if there's an opening act tonite? Can't wait.
Don't really do New Years shows anymore and have been hitting the 12/30 Mule show since they've been doing the run. 2002 or so. Haven't missed one and it's one of my favorite nights of the year.
Wonder if they do indeed return to the road via 2011 New Year's Run?
I expect them to be back at the Beacon next December. I don't know when a new tour will start. It looks like the only Mule performance of the entire year after Jamaica will be Saturday night at Mt. Jam. Hopefully I will be able to catch a few performances of the Warren Haynes Band over the summer and/or fall.
