Finally got around to getting this from itunes after seeing the PBS special, man is it ever good! Pure rock from this guy and his band. You can tell he appreciates and enjoys playing music. He has come a long way since his Bloodline days. If there is a better opener for a show than Diango>The Ballad of John Henry I sure would like to hear it. I will be playing this one non stop for awhile.

I was fortunate enough to be at the show ... got the DVD last year for Xmas from Mrs H ... sure was one great performance ... he was obviously very delighted to be playing at the RAH ... and to have EC come on as a guest was the icing on the cake ...

I saw that PBS special - WOW indeed. Kept thinking about the audience gettin' slammed in a good way so Harvey I can't believe you were actually there!

Never have seen him either - rushed to get tickets for Pensacola show 12/1.

I am probably in the severe minority with this but I just don't like Joe Bonamassa.
I've tried to like him, i know i should like him, i just don't like him...
I've even seen this special and I could see where people would love it. I dont know what it is? Maybe its his look. He kind of looks like he should be selling real estate or taking high profile clients on investment lunches.

I've heard other people say that. As a matter of fact, the first time I heard about him, it was on this site, and someone was saying that they didnt like Joe Bonamassa.

So I immedietly went to Youtube and checked out a few videos.

All I thought was...whats not to like?

Looking forward to seeing him at the Stamford Palace tomorrow night. Try to catch him anytime he's in the area. I was pleased to read somewhere he's finally changed his set list up a bit.

I oringinally watched it to see the Clapton appearance, and found myself liking Joe.

I've since bought a few disks from his back catalog. Good stuff.

I also started checking out Walter Trout around the same time. He's another good one.

Ok. But specifically what is about his stage persona that you find distastefull? On the vids I've seen I dont see much difference between him and Clapton, or Warren or Dickey or Stevie Ray Vaugh, etc etc etc. He seems to just stand there and play the blues.

He moves around *some* but the music sort of makes all of us do that.

Whats different with him?

To be fair and straight up... I can't put my finger on it. Just the vibe I get.

The man can play some nasty stuff though, no doubt...

There was a thread about this a while back. Some folks thought he was too much of a "poser". Felt he hadn't earned his "right". People over at Joe's boards got quite a chuckle out of it when they found out about it. I understand it got back to Joe and he laughed it off. IMO he is absolutely one of the best out there right now and without a doubt earned his "right" to "pose" all he wants if that's how anyone perceives it. I'll go see him whenever he comes around. I don't know of any artist that everyone likes, different strokes for different folks. It's all good.

I was at the RAH show too and can assure you that, unfortunately, the sound in the hall on the night was horrendous. It was a blast, alright!

I'm sure ithe sound will have been transferred fine on the DVD, though (not that I've seen it).

Hey Wayne, caught some of this on SC PBS tonight and it was very good. Been meaning to take the time to give some of his stuff a real listen as a guitar playing friend of mine recommended him and had traveled to see him last year ion charlotte. Good news is that he's playing Greenville Sc on Nov 23rd at the beautiful Peace Center. Great little performing arts center on West main with wonderful acoustics & sight lines & seats only 'bout 2200. Might have to take a Tuesday night road-trip!

Joe's stage persona is just fine. (Or stage presentation, if that is what you mean, because that is what I mean.) Most performers acknowledge they are on the stage and that there's a whole room filled with people out there to say hello to. It's a common thing for performers to do, even rock performers. I think Joe is very comfortable on the stage and he always takes a few minutes to tell the audience a relevant and funny or cute story about the town he is performing in. And while I think it is a planned thing for him, he pulls it off in a genuine way.

He has a great touring band with him. Don't miss him if you can He has some dates in the states November/December and next year in February/March. He tours Europe and outside the states extensively so catch him when he is here if you can.

Hey Bill, wish I was a little closer and I could see you there. Those short holiday weeks make for long work days. I am playing that show all the time at work, love it.
