Hi Folks,
I would like to invite everyone close to Gadsden Alabama out to the Blackstone Pub on Dec. 21st for some live Christmas music. Most of you probably don't know me, but I have met a lot of you at past shows that I have played drums on with Highly Kind, Skydogs, Lefty Collins Band, Travis Posey Band, and others at a few of the Jam for Duane events. Our jazz band, "The Liz Wood Project" will be playing songs from our new Christmas album entitled 'Yule Time'. You can hear samples of each of the 14 songs on CD baby. Just go to http://www.lizwoodproject.com/ and you can link to it. Hope to see some of you there and Merry Christmas!

Hi Jimmy, thanks for the reminder. Hope to arrange my schedule to catch both you guys and Big Stephen at the Fish Market that night.

A bit about the Liz Wood Project. Ms Wood is a superb blues singer, and is surrounded by excellent musicians in this band, but the star has to be clarinetist Joe Keracher. Mr. Keracher appeared on Highly Kind's CD that many of you have. An avid bowler, Mr. Keracher is 93. Originally from Pennsylvania, he was stationed here in WW II. He was a friend of my Dad's. The Benny Goodman Orch. came to his hometown when he was 17,
he fell in love with the music, bought a clarinet just like Goodman's, paid for it in installments. In 1937. It's the one he still plays. I had a nice chat with Mr. Keracher about improv music last month. He talked at length about the years of practicing scales in different keys. Above my head. But he said that once he had mastered it, that improv came naturally. Just play what you feel, have solid rhythm behind you, and you can always get back wherever you go. Fascinating conversation.

....and a little personal note. Something unbelievable happened in this little town in 2003.
I certainly don't understand it all, but it has been a wonderful adventure. The music explosion that evolved from Bobby Welch booking Robert Randolph and the Family band has changed the whole culture. Now, almost every night, there are quality musicians playing somewhere. Many of you were a HUGE part of that. My humblest thanks.
And last night, I saw the next generation.

Our largest club here is called Chestnut Station. It is not at all conducive to Jam music, is a place for the mainstream--mostly country. But Albert Simpson plays every Thursday, and a laid-back pair of guitar players from 2 bands play every Wednesday. One of these has been teaching guitar to the owners' son. He made his live debut last night. Asked for and got an SG couple years back. Tore up some shure-'nuff blues. Red House, Voodoo Chile, 3 more. Got a standing ovation. Mom and Dad had to hide in another room, because he asked them not to come, would make him nervous. In the end, he was grinning from ear to ear.

Welcome to our world, Noah Sauls. Noah is 13.
Amazing how much those Braves hats and Alabama hats look alike. When the wearer is sporting an SG.

eapfp, and Merry Christmas to everybody.
