This show looked better on paper than I thought it was. I'd rate it a 5/10 overall with some moments and some tunes bringing it up to an 8/10. The crowd, at least near us, wasn't energetic (11th row Orch center aisle). Some songs were played to short, some didn't seem to build effectively. I still can't figure out why there was no Mountain Jam or Folsom between Game Face parts, that makes the song for me.

The Achilles was pretty cool because it's so great a song to hear played live but a little sloppy in execution. I found that on a few songs. It was almost like they played 1 too many shows before taking the break next year not withstanding the 2 or 3 dates booked for early '11. I just didn't see the overall NYE Mule show we expect. The energy is usually much higher. When I heard this year's theme originally, I thought it was pretty cool. It played though more like they ran out of theme ideas. We had a great time, probably our 8th Mule Year's Eve and 20th Mule show +- but it wasn't in the top 10 for us. Last year's Woodstock show was much more fun, better executed (for the most part) and a great show to play today. Not sure if I'll even pick up last night's show.

I was not there last night but was at 12/30 and thought it was off the charts incredible. I wonder why the energy was down in the crowd?

I concur on the energy thing. Probably the most quiet Mule crowd I have ever experienced with Warren having to implore the crowd to get into it more than once. The crowd always starts to thin out after midnight on NYE but last night it thinned out too much. I suppose there were people looking to go party somewhere and some wives who didn't want to stay. By the start of the third set there were big patches of empty seats. Thought the show was very good but for the first time ever I enjoyed the show that preceded it more. Thursday's show was incredible IMO!

As cool as it sounds, it is just not Warren's style of playing. Fast and reckless are not part of his playing and they were what Ritchie's playing was all about. A couple of songs for fun but if they did the whole album it would stand out IMO.

Curious as to how Bad Compant sounded?

I'm glad I was at Thursday's show. Was it totally an energy issue or was it the setlist? Last year's special Woodstock set with Dana Fuchs was unreal.

What was this year's theme?

As the Mule are about to take a 1 year break (except for a couple booked early year shows), the them was for fans to, online, pick their 10 favorite original Mule songs, 5 favorite Mule covers and 5 covers you'd like to hear them play.

Ditto on that. Last year, though also had a few errors on a couple of the MANY never before played tunes. The special guests were fantastic with Dana Fuchs being the clear highlight. Her Ball & Chain was simply mindblowing. Also, I look forward to the NYE shows always having a horn section which raises the Mule sound to another level. No horn section this year though Bill Evans is brilliant. The Woodstock show was pure fun. Matt Abst coming out front for Country Joe. Great! Jingo with a certain ABB percussionist!

12/31/09 Great theme, great crowd, great fun, great show.

Would love to hear the Mule do all of Mountain Climbing with Corky on drums (no disrespect intended to Matt)

I have been to every Beacon Mule NYE show and both my wife and i had a blast at this years show. It was certainly not a typical Mule setlist, but i enjoyed each and every song including all the first timers. I was also amused to see set pieces from years past on stage although i did miss the change over for the second set which they skipped this year. I was happy to spend another NYE with The Mule!

annoying upload time, but not bad for the band's pilot effort.

Tough to reproduce Bonham's insane drumming for this tune.

Thanks for posting that link!

I hope they play this down in Jamaica. One of my favorite Zep tunes covered by the Mule... Hot damn!!

It was both Doug. The setlist was good I just preferred Thursday's sets. Last year probably the fewest people left early out of all of the NYE shows. This year the opposite.

Did Warren say anything about MYE for 2011? Like "See you here next year"?
