Shoot Doug... I might have to bust out the thermal wear!

Did 12X100 in the pool today. The first three sucked. Just wasn't feeling it but once I finished the piece and got to the wall, I got ready for the next one. By #7, I was feeling the mojo. That being said, it was time to hit the showers after I finished #12!

It's been hot in So Cal but still getting the runs in. Saturday morning was an 11 miler and did pretty well for feeling kind of yucky. Yesterday was just a mild cruise due to sore legs and heat. Today it's off to the pool... dive for the rings in the deep end!

Hit my personal best 6.18 miles running on treadmill.Generally I average between 5.25-5.85 each day I run.

I just felt the urge and ability to push it a bit today...a great high!

That, and over the last 2 months having my kids teach me the most effective weight lifting approaches, have felt good.

I have great respect for swimmers.....huge stamina required....for wind and muscles...I'm in very good shape, but could never approach what a swimmer accomplishes....and I'm an aging ole coot

Going for a run this morning as soon as the sun comes up. Its only 77 degrees this morning! Got to take advantage of this cool spell.

And given my knees and hips,I have great respect for outdoor running...something I did till my forties....keep it up Doug, you got a cool regimen going....

I have to limit my outdoor road work to about 1-2 times a week. My knees, hips, and ankles just won't take a lot of that kind of high impact pounding (I'm 55). I can mix in a session or two on the track, walk, use the elliptical machine, and jump rope to keep it all going. I try to do more cardio than anything. I've yet to top 4 miles running anywhere! And I agree about the swimming. Its all good at this point though!

So, last three weeks, had a nasty respiratory bug and busy with life stuff, so managed Sunday leg workouts throughout, but missed upper body for 3 weeks on workouts.

So a couple of days ago I get back in for something besides legs. I did a huge fun workout. Did an hour and a half of just pick something and do it stuff. Mixed body parts in crazy orders, random picked machines, weights, whatever, did stuff I never do, and did shoulders back chest bi's tri's all in one workout. I got to where everything was fatigued and an incredible feel. That was fun. I am going back in and do it again tonight, then next time start the split body part by days deal again, but this was a great Muscle Confusion, return to the routine deal, and a lot of fun. I recommend throwing a "Crazy Workout" in once in a while, your body will go whooaaa wow.

Squats, momentary plateau at 425 but working on deeper and better, so that weight is starting to feel like a "normal" meaning time to move up for real.

It is fun at 56 to be squatting more than quite a few young buck big guys, who seem to minimize leg and squats and are out of proportion big top torso, puney leg look, which to me is weird looking. If anything one should under-emphasize upper body stuff to focus on legs unless you got the lucky genetics to begin with with big legs. Squats build back, torso, hips, and way more than just legs. Arnold in his prime said if you only do one excercize, squat.

Got back in the pool today after almost two weeks. Not bad. Just took my time and got my 1200 in. Feeling a little stiff right now but it will wear off quick.

Thanks for the props dadof2. Getting back in the pool on a regular basis is one of the highlights of the year. Now time to play my Strat!

Keep up the good work folks. Glad ya'll are here, helps keep me motivated. Light weight workout planned for today with an outdoor run while my daughter is at soccer practice. Hasn't hit 100 degrees in a week! I think I might have just survived another summer.

Nice day in the pool. Wasn't crowded, had a lane to myself. It was a good day to use the pull bouy and work the arms and chest. Tomorrow will be the Friday long run. Keep up the good work everyone!

Cant seem to get back on track.

Body is breaking down a bit which isnt helping. Partially torn rotator cuff, a tingling sensation from my left knee at times which makes my lower leg numb, and to top it off I was in the ER last week with a freaking hernia.

Good times.

Guess I gotta lower the food intake being I am burning less these days.

Yay.

Hang in there Wharfy. If you can't exercise as much, try to watch the eating. The last thing you want to do is put on any weight.

Hopefully you can at least get out and walk some in the evening/morning. At the very least, it keeps the circulation going. Keep the Faith!

16 lbs in 5 months. Yea, not happy. Some is probably muscle, but I have had the rotator cuff issue for 4 months now. I can do some weight training, but I am limited. I just dont want to make this worse

Back to the pool today. Light run yesterday; nothing fancy. The heat will be back for the next few days so I won't be looking for trouble. Cheers!

I feel your pain wharfy. I'm having to lay out a bit, have some kind of problem with my heel. Feels bruised, but I got it from running. Hoping its not an achilles problem. I worked out really hard this summer, and now I seem to have a myrid of small aches and pains and my body is just feeling a bit tired. Between that, school, and the kid's incredibly busy schedule I'm giving myself 10 days of rest. I'm 4 days into it. Sometimes we just need a break. I'll let you know how it works out.

Friday Lite run today. Backing off a bit and giving the legs some recovery. Good day in the pool yesterday. It sure feels good when you get out and your body feels tight from head to toe.

Here's to all of us getting out and about in our own way and making the most of it... and a good sweat too! Cheers!

Great day in the pool. 300X1, 1000X1 with the pool buoy, 200X1. Felt real strong and good pushoffs on my turns. Tomorrow is my 8 miler with two big climbs. After that, no running for two weeks. Need to give the legs a re-charge and some time off.
