Trying some new things out to incorporate into my routine.
Box jumps, rope slams, kettleballs, TRX..

Looking into crossfit.

Any of you guys ever do it?

No, it sounds like work! My daughter has done the insanity thing though, and she said it was killer - and she's 15!

Wharf my nephew is into crossfit. It is really intense...He injured some discs in his back doing it. Heavy deadlifts did him in....

Yea thats the one move that could do me in as well. I have been doing some box jumps and stuff at the gym. Who knew I had some "ups"?

I personally don't think heavy deadlifts are a smart lift. To do them properly, they are like a mini squat, arch the back, but the big risk is the leaning over part, just not worth it. Straight squats are better for torso and back. For heavy back lift, I do T Bar, barbell wedged in a corner plates on one end, and row to the chest. It does not stress or hyper scrunch the lower back discs like deadlift. Good heavy squats work the lower back enough, deadlifts are not needed.

I got the flu end of November and it lasted three weeks while getting over it. Took me until today to get back to squat weight I did mid November (two months!). Cool thing, is since my no fat / dairy, ocassional fish only diet, I have lost weight (all bodyfat around middle). I weigh 187 now, down ten pounds. Cool thing, I squatted 450 again today after two months of lessor 400ish poundages, and at ten pounds less body weight. The teaching for me is that bodyfat has nothing to do with strength, as the ten pounds I lost was bodyfat. And a lessor weight can be as strong as a higher weight, if the muscle stays the same. I also feel I look far better, gut about gone

Good to hear about the weight lost and strength gain....You're probably more pure muscle weight then you where 10LBS ago....you probably lost more than 10 LBS of fat and replaced the difference with muscle...like -15 on the fat and +5 on the muscle

Starting to bulld up my mileage to get in shape for the Boston Marathon. I've done three 10 mile days so far this month plus other runs. Going out for 6-7 later and then 10 miles on Wednesday. I'm still not doing more than every other day while my hamstring reacts to the mileage. Hope to get in a long run for closer to 13-14 over the weekend. Can't afford a setback. Plan is still to just enjoy Patriots Day in Mass and not push for a great time.

I'm hoping my screwed up upper back/shoulder/left arm issue turned the corner in the last 24 hours. Cautiously optimistic. Running actually relaxes it.

Started up some cardio this week....stairmaster....How do you guys find fun in cardio work...I find it mind numbingly boring....I do like to rid my bike but it's not always the most convenient activity to do. I don't/won't ride on the streets because people type and drive now a days so I like to find bike paths, but that can be a 20 - 45 minute drive from where I live to the trails I like. Any thoughts on finding the fun in walking up an elevator to nowhere???

You just have to learn how to go to your happy place.

Ran 4 miles again today, starting to feel pretty good. Tim, I get tired just reading your posts. Goal is still 5 miles in 45 minutes. Tomorrow is chest, back, abs, and shoulders.

Works for me too! While I enjoy swimming, I'll take a trail run any day, any time.

Great week of working out last week, feel like I'm getting into a pretty good grove again. Weather has stayed nice enough to get some outside runs with hills, feeling stronger all over. Only about one more month until the gym thins out again!
