Summer is winding down, but its been one of the best summers for working out that I can remember. Strictly cardio today, 30 min on the elliptical and 15 on the rowing machine. Just curious, anybody using any protien shakes, vitamins, or supplements out there? I use soy protien with milk and fuit, usually blueberries, for a protiend shake once a day.

I have 2 different protein powders I use for drinks. Both from ON Performance
Whey & Casein

Mornings pre and post workout
1 - 2 cups of water
1 banana or peach or nectarine
hand full of frozen strawberries
hand full of frozen triple berry mix
2 - 3 scoops of Whey protein vanilla flavored

I'll drink half before my WO and half after

My afternoon, evening or off day protein drink is
1 cup water 1 cup milk
1 TBSP of peanut butter - sometimes I'll add a banana
2 scoops of Casein protein chocolate flavored

I use a blender for both

Casein is real thick so a shaker doesn't always break it down all the way and it'll ball up and be grainy

Blew off the Wednesday run yesterday and went for a walk instead. It was nice to justs cruise around the shopping center. Good, solid swim today. Tomorrow will be a light morning swim and an easy run at lunch.

Hey goldtop, how about adding something that involves a twist, an olive, or a lime wedge to those protein drinks! Cheers!

Just checking in...have continued my 5 mile 5 day a week run and weights routine...but,over past 6 months have added hills or incline on machine...just awesome...even shot around with my son and played some light hoops today....I'm way too broken and arthritic from past hoops injuries, thus this was a once every few years experience...great fun...wish I could still play...but,coming to terms with my age I'm quite pleased with all I can do...

Right on dad! The fastest way to improve one's running is to add some climbs. Good job!

Just an easy 3 1/2 run today. Not too warm but humid.

Had to be a workout or two just getting it setup gt!

Ran at lunch today. It was HOT. Warmer than I expected. Not one of my best efforts but I didn't care. Just wanted to get back to the office.

Building the power rack was a workout no doubt. It was easy to assemble but still a lot of work. It's like a big erector set....if you remember those.

I'll be squatting tomorrow for the first time at home......looking forward to it

Everyone keep up the hard work

Got my mile's worth of swim in this morning. Feel pretty good now that I've had my breakfast. Yesterday, I did a 100 free in 1:29. Goal was to break 1:30. Down the road, I'd like to break 1:25. That being said, I'm in no hurry...

I was kind of feeling my oats so I went for a run at lunch. Took it easy due to the heat and my leg. Ended up doing the switchback. Best my leg has felt in a while. Glad I got out.

Hopefully everyone had a good sweat or two this week. Happy Friday gang!

Still workin' it! Now that school has started I've shortened my workouts to alternate strength training one day and cardio the next, usually about 45 minutes to an hour per day. Seems to be working out okay, and is the best I cn do right now. Keep working my firends.

Hot again yesterday. Just ran some laps in the back of my office. Had lots of shade and I was in not hurry. Off to the pool today. Hope to get 1500 in.

Good schedule Doug. Generally, my works are about 30 to 60 minutes depending if I go for a long run or not. That's plenty for me!

Great swim yesterday. Felt strong and in control. Got 1500 yards in the morning including 1 X 500 backstroke. Of course it's hotter than hell already today. An easy, fun run at lunch and then it's prep time for the UCLA's home opener tomorrow.

GO BRUINS!

Super sets today, nice cool rainy morning, nice change and great for working out! Weight still hanging around 218, but clothes are fitting a little looser. I know I'm adding lean muscle, and it feels GOOD! I'll be patient and wait for the wieght to start coming down again. Have lost 30 lbs in 8 months, which is a great rate of weight loss, so I guess I really can't complain.

Congrats MTNJAM! That's quite an accomplishment! Keep up the good work!

Got my Monday run this morning. It's still hot so I just took it easy. Picked it up the last part of the hill but backed it off going down and back home. No hurry today!

Got my mile in the pool today. Due to the heat, the pool was very refreshing. Got some good reach and really nailed my turns.

Tomorrow will be a morning swim and then a run at lunch.

Awesome workout day. Kicked ass in the pool and ran when it was 100 degrees. Chilling right now.

I think you'll all enjoy this. It's a 60 Minutes - Sports segment about the late Harry Parker, Harvard's rowing coach for the last 51 years. No johnny football's on his teams. Enjoy!

Great work everyone

My knee is feeling way better. I started squatting again this week. It feels good, I lost some serious strength over the last 6 weeks but it'll come back fast.

keep it up...Play all Night

Well finally some cooler weather... it's a beautiful, early So Cal fall like day today. Got my mile in today: 1 X 500 breast, 1 X 1000 freestyle with pull buoy, 1 X 300 free. Pool wasn't crowded and there was a good vibe all around.

Tomorrow it's a 4 mile run. Hopefully the weather holds up.

Right on goldtop! Glad your knee is feeling better!

It's been a long time but I did a mile in the pool non-stop in 37 minutes and change today. I had a lane to myself and it wasn't crowded so I figured what the hell. I feel good but glad it's done!

I think it's time for some new goggles... my wife will think I was a rastafarian concert all day instead of the office...

Well no workouts since last Friday. Does two hours doing yard work along with moving some furniture count?!?!

Today is off to the pool. Looking forward to stretching it out and doing some turns.

Decent swim workout today: 1 X 500 breast, 10 X 100 free for time, and 1 X 300 back/free cool down. By the time I was finished, there were only 4 of us in the pool. I like the calm, smooth water.

Hope everyone is still chugging along one way or ther other. Cheers!

Been working hard getting my squat weights back up after my knee sprain. It's feeling great.

Back to my upper lower split. Started a program for bench and overhead press called Wendlers 5/3/1..check it out if you want to lift heavier. It's a great power lifting program

I'll probably go to it for legs when I get my weights up a little more. I'm enjoying my leg days and I'm making good gains again. My left leg is way closer in size and strength to my right then it was and I also use it better.

Better coordination all the way around. Last year when I first started lifting it felt like my left leg was there just for support and it really did nothing in the way of moving weight. So it's a huge change for me actually feels like it's in the game. I can tell my body calls the muscles a lot better. Better recruitment....Looking forward to pushing forward 225 on squats by the end of the year is my goal. Sets of 5 with 165 next week. I'll blow right past that.

Also found 2 different over load exercises. Squat walkouts and rack pulls

Squat walkout I put 260 on the bar unrack it walk back and stand for 10 seconds to get my body use to heavier weights. rack pulls are similar in that you use a heavy weight but you're only moving it a couple inches. It's sort of a 1/4 dead lift, just the last few inches of the move

Cool...keep up the hard work
