So..

How is everyone doing?

Today is my "heavy" day..

60 mins cardio.
Minimum 60 mins weights.. chest, arms, back

Then another 30 stretching, situps, pushups, etc.

No green beer or corned beef for me today

Weigh in tonight.. If I lose just another .6 lbs, I will be at my lightest weight in about 15 years.
And I will be at my "Wanee goal" 4 weeks early.

Hope I dont gain it all back at the Beacon this weekend

Happy Friday everyone! If you indulged over St. Patrick's Day, good for you! Make sure you get some exercise today or tomorrow. Don't beat yourself up if you're not feeling it at first. Just doing it is a good start.

Today is my "Death Run 2011". It's about 7 1/2 miles with 4 good climbs. The last one is "beyond category" as in cycling. It's also the last one and the finish... oh well... My goal is to finish in less than an hour. The legs are rested and I'm ready to Rock N' Roll!

Either way, I'm enjoying a double when I get home tonight!

Keep up the good work everyone! Here's to being healthy!

I run my 5th straight Georgia Half Marathon in Atlanta this Sunday morning! Never have stepped up to the full. Should be very mild weather - which is good for the half runners but the full runners probably would ask for it to be cooler.

Should be a great morning.

Gald to see everyone still at it. Chuck, you are rockin'! Just got back from the gym, heavy chest day, arms shoulders, abs, back. The 45 minutesw on the elliptical is a killer. My weight has stayed around 221, but I took in another notch in my belt this week. I think transitioning to less weight work and more running has made a difference. Glad to see this thread still around.

Well I did it. I bested the Gelsons-MOA2-Tank Death Run in 57:20. Still had some juice left in the legs too. Glad it is out of the way. I'm now relaxing to some jazz and a little Bacardi and Pepsi after some left over corn beef for dinner. It's all good!

Nicely done! I ran the Kennessaw Locomotive 1/2 back in September. I may do another 1/2 but there is no way I'm ever running one step further than 13.1 miles. I was hurtin'!

I've got to find another one to run in the early fall. I took the winter off from running in an attempt to bulk up through weight lifting. Didn't work but it was fun trying.

LIght workout yesterday with dumbell bench press, some triceps and shoulders, abs, and then I actually ran 4.5 miles! That's a record for me. Weight is maintaining 221, next stop, 215. Woo Hoo!

You have to indulge everynow and then. I think that's part of the process.
Deprivation doesn't do anything positive for the body, mind, or spirit.

Going to do a weigh in the first week of April and hope to be down at least 15lbs since I started. I know I've lost at least 2 inches off my waist already if not more. Man, it's such a good feeling trying on pants that you squeezed in at Christmas feeling loose and comfy on the first day of spring.

You've definitely changed your outlook when you feel bad about not working out or having a food fest but I've learned to take that in stride and realize that your fitness plan has peaks and valleys just like everything else. I'm really pleased that this fitness focus has really changed my mental outlook as well as my physical outlook.

It's really all good!

Weighed 219 this am! Woo Hoo! Went for a short workout with the wife, then walked for an hour with her at the track. Nice quality time. She really is an interesting an intelligent person, and not bad on the eyes either.

Hello everyone...

Hope you don't mind a new member here...

I have been an avid bicyclist since my late 20's. In fact, my bicycle helped me to finally kick a 12 year 1 to 1 1/2 pack a day smoking habit.

But as I got older, each year, I bicycled less and less, and after a hernia operation two years ago, I ended up with complications that prevented me from doing any exercise at all for almost a year. After the operation related pains finally went away, I had lost all desire to work out at all.

I ended up at around 185 which at 5'10'' does not sound bad, but I have always been on the lanky side, so most of that weight went noticeably straight to my gut. And it seemed like I was tired all the time.

So, I decided in October that at 52, it was finally time to start trying to get back into shape. I joined a health center/gym that is part of a local hospital , so that kind of eliminates the type of people who are already in shape who hang out just to be seen. A lot of the folks here are closer to our ages and working hard to get back in shape, which makes the atmosphere a lot nicer and stress-free.

I started a combination weight training/aerobic program with 45-50 minutes on weight machines (no free weights) and 50 minutes on stationary bike on opposite days, taking a day off every 6 days.

I started off very light as I was concerned about being the most out of shape in my life, as well as worried that I would re-injure my hernia area.

But, I just had my 4 month anniversary and am now hovering around 170. I have also noticed the "clothes that can now fit again" effect which is very cool. I also have a bit more energy, and definitely feel guility now if I miss even one session.

So to all of you, congrats on opting for a healtier lifestyle and staying commited to it . I am definitely going to use your current programs as motivation to not only keep rolling, but also to try to do a bit more.

Finishing will not be a problem.. I did the entire thing on a treadmill yesterday. Took me 43 mins, but I did it. I think I could do better then that on the road..A will have a few friends pushing me along as well

Thanks Chuck! And Doug also...

Good to be here...

I did 50 minutes on the gym stationary bike tonight after work. I have found that having something to read definitely helps make the biking time pass quicker. So tonight, I brought a copy of Johnny Cash's autobiography "Cash" with me. It's a great read and I like the idea of getting some music time (so to speak) in with my exercise...

I'm betting you can handle that 5K just fine Chuck. Just keep a steady even pace, slow down a bit when you need to, focus on the finish, and let the young dogs sprint after the rabbit...

Ran 4 miles yesterday including a good chug up the hill. Today is yoga. Hopefully once in my lifetime I can touch my toes without bending my knees!

Here's to everyone getting into the shape they want. Keep up the good work!

Damn! Just when things were going great I tweaked my ankle, and now I won't be able to run for a couple of days. I guess it's rest and the exercise bike for me. Keep going!

So I got delivery of the dreadmill. No excuses now. Wharfie will kick my butt if that thing starts collecting dust. I do prefer walking/running outdoors, but now the Winter will no longer give me an excuse to slack. A good thing???
