Thinking that a few of us UK peach-heads may head over for Wanee 2012. However my requests for info on renting a cabin (via the links on the Wanee 2011 site) have been so far ignored.

Anyone with any info on how much they are to rent for a two bedroom that will take 4 male adults (allegedley adult?) and how we arrange that? We haven't actually discussed it yet as we won't meet up until before the TTB gig in June, but I'm thinking arrive Wednesday depart Monday.

And how far is it from Wanee to Macon?

Go to the park's website and make phone calls...lots of them...be relentless. There are not many cabins. The one I rented slept 4 (I don't know if they have any bigger ones) but it was just tenacity that got me one.

I'd say that if you want the comfort of a bed, just rent a motel room. A whole lot easier and cheaper. I don't think that us regular people will ever have access to these cabins again. Too many "more important people" have found out about them.

Problem with the motel rooms Jim, is that you'll need a designated driver to get to and from the park. A pair of $20 tents from Walmart is the way ahead.

And maybe for those older Wanee attendee's among us, a decent quality $75 dollar blow up mattress (pump included) to put in that tent. Much easier on the back if you intend on sleeping in a tent for the entire festival.

We turned down a cabin in 2009, had a cabin in 2010, and turned down a cabin this year. They called to tell us we had a cabin the Monday before Wanee. That is 3 days prior to the event. Also, they went up on the price from about $1,400 to $1,850. Oh yeah, we put our name on the list as we were leaving the camp in 2010 for Wanee 2011.

You definitely need a backup plan in case they don't call. We finally decided we could not deal with the high price and the fact you will not know your plans until the week of the festival. You try to call them before and they tell you they are not releasing any cabins but they do. That has happened for three years.

It is hard to beat a cabin though. I have done Wanee every way (except on a boat) and the cabin is by far the most comfortable and convenient.

Call the park office and put your name on the list even if they say you are on the third page. Most people have to decline because they call so late.

Good Luck!

And why, praytell, do they call so late? These cabins are cash cows for them; you'd think they'd want to shore up those reservations early.

The motels in Live Oak are very reasonable, $60-90 per night. You just have to get your reservations in early, like December. I've stayed at the motels and never had any trouble leaving or getting in Wanee. No traffic problems whatsoever. Just be responsible with the consumption of adult beverages and the like.

The park blames it on Live Nation, which I don't have any problem believing. They say that Live Nation holds them in case some of the artists or other VIP wants them.

Basically, they have a five page list of people that want them so they don't give a s**t about how anybody feels. Here is an example. Two years ago they called my buddy to tell him we had a cabin. He was at work and could not answer the call at the time. He called them back about 30 minutes later and they had given the cabin to the next person on the list. No message, not second call, nothing. They just gave it away and that was the last cabin. We eventually made enough of a fuss that they found another one for us, but that goes to show that they don't care.
