Check it out...

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/05/25/palin-movie-coming-to-theat ers-this-summer/

As far as I can tell, this movie is a very flattering puff piece that portrays Palin in a very favorable light. It was made by a former Goldman Sachs executive named Steven Bannon who has made other pro-Republican movies, including one about Ronald Reagain.

I had just about given up on Palin running in 2012. However, the more I hear about this film, the more I think she might actually do it. The comment she made the other day about having a "fire in her belly" to run for President caught my attention as well.

I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, every poll indicates that a Palin/Obama race would be the easiest win for Obama, and since I want Obama to win, that is very tempting. She has strong appeal to the GOP base and could actually win the nomination, even if most of the grownups in the Republican Party have decided she's toxic. Heck, even that famous liberal Roger Ailes of Fox News has described her as "dumb."

On the other hand, I'd rather have a sane, rational Republican nominee like Mitt Romney. In that case, even if Obama loses, the White House will be occupied by someone with some sense. I may not agree with Romney on the issues, but he's not stupid, and I think he could handle the job.

Also, a Palin/Obama campaign would be very ugly and negative in nature. I just don't see any way around it, and I don't think it would enrich our political culture.

Your thoughts? Should she run, if only for the comic relief factor? Should she stay out of it? Would you actually want Sarah Palin to run this country?

I never knew she was a lesbian.

not that there is anything wrong with that!

Being a republican, my biggest fear is that my party will nominate her for the highest office in the land. The thinking being that her celebrity will work in her favor. There are an awful lot of "not so bright" people out there who will more than likely vote for her merely because of their immense dislike for President Obama...

A very scary thought indeed.

I do not think Palin is dumb. If she were, she would not have capitalized on her near-accidental fame so brilliantly. She will continue to flirt (!) w/ running to keep her name in the public eye as long as possible, but in the end, will not run. Not running would be the smart decision for her bank account.

As to the people who are seduced by her platitude-laden word salads, not so smart. And I do not like seeing the weak-minded separated from their money, so that's my only issue w/ 1/2 Gov Palin.

A two hour movie about when she was governor. The movie will be longer than her term in office.

BigV, to quote a famous Democrat, I feel your pain

We may argue the issues with each other here on the Whipping Post, but I realize the majority of my Republican brothers and sisters deserve better than Sarah Palin for a candidate.

This is why I'm torn. On a purely cutthroat level, Palin getting the GOP nomination would be good for my "team" and would help us win. On the other hand, I think it would be terrible for America, and I genuinely hope that if Palin does decide to run, the Republicans have enough sense to not pick her. I'd prefer having two sane, rational adults to choose from. I'm funny that way

And Brock, I thought she wasn't going to run either. But did you see where the movie is making its debut?

Iowa. Coincidence? Maybe, but I don't think so.

Yes Rob, I saw that Iowa debut news. Certainly not a coincidence, but it's just good Palin marketing to keep the buzz going.

I'm willing to give 5:1 odds on her not running, like I did w/ someone on Trump. Up for a friendly wager?

I agree 100%.

She's only interested in making money for herself.

Running for pres. wouldn't improve her cash-flow.

Palin's move to Arizona will no doubt put her in serious contention for County Clerk or City Council Woman.

I doubt that Romney will get the nomination...at least I hope he doesn't,he is part of the old school established Republican machine.

And I pray that Palin doesn't get the nomination.

Well, the American voters (both sides) are rather easily impressed with celebrities. That, and the fact that they guy (or gal) with the best campaign ad usually wins. We buy what we're being sold.

Having said that, if Palin does run, I'll either stay home or vote fors ome third, fourth or fifth party candidate- someone who has virtually no chance of winning.

No Mike, I'm not..as much as I like how he is getting NJ in fiscal shape, there is something about him that bothers me.

Right now I'm leaning toward Pawlenty, but there is a long way to go and before I commit any money to anyone's campaign, I need this to shake out some more.

I haven't forgotten. But remember, she has to be in the race on 3/1/2012 AND Obama must be defeated before you get any beer. I still fell pretty good about it. Better than I did when we made the bet.

I'm willing to make 2 bets with you:

1. I'll bet Palin is not in the race on March 1, 2012.

2. I'll bet Obama is re-elected.

1. I'll take that bet.

2. Well, I didn't think he'd get elected in the first place, I'll take that bet as well.

Write it down. We're on. I'll even go $10 on each bet if you want, enough to by a case of cheap beer for the guy who wins on both counts, and a wash if we split.

Deal!

Well, if she gets elected President we'll probably need something stronger than beer to deal with it...

Undefeated? Uh, she's not vice-president is she? Or doesn't she count that as a loss?

I think it would be a huge embarrassment to our nation if she were to get the Republican nomination and horror of horrors, win the Presidency. I can't imagine her at State functions engaging in serious conversations with dignitaries from other countries. She would no doubt have to start reading newspapers and publications of substance.

i'm with you dutch. he's (christie) getting strong calls to run, but i'd rather him fix this mess in jersey first and truly be able to evaluate how he is as a leader before a run for president. if he continues to do well in jersey, then i would like him to run in 4 years. plus, i don't think obama can be beaten.

i'd really like ron paul to get the nomination.

palin should not be even in the discussion.

=========================================================

COURIC: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this ó to stay informed and to understand the world?

PALIN: Iíve read most of them again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media ó

COURIC: But which ones specifically? Iím curious.

PALIN: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years.

COURIC: Can you name any of them?

PALIN: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where, it's kind of suggested and it seems like, 'Wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C. may be thinking and doing when you live up there in Alaska?' Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.

Lord help us

Concerning Christie....he just got NJ out of this Rerggie...or whatever the acronym is for the cap and trade in our area, so that is fueling speculation about his viability.
Concerning Obama...I'm gonna disagree and say that he can be beat. He has no record to run on, it's all scare tactics and the fact that the media and the Left are in full attack mode on Sarah Palin tells me they fear what she brings to the contest.
