So I am currently in a mediator's office on the 16th floor of an Atlanta highrise, on a break in mediation with my sister, in an attempt to avoid a lawsuit over my mother's will. I can use any positive vibes that you can offer... It's been weighing me down for several months now. If this does not end it, the road can go on forever.

Alan, Man, do I feel for you.....I was the only one involved with my fathers's care for years, and when he passed, my sister, who had lived over 1000 miles away and had been completely uninvolved for years, swooped in and took EVERYTHING.....I didn't get a dime. As I tell people, it's not about the money, it's about the principle - what's right and what the deceased's wishes were. I know what they were and what he would have wanted....as I had power of attorney. And I never paid myself a salary out of his estate like my sister did. Never took a penny.

I just couldn't bring myself to sue my sister. But I haven't spoken to her in years and have no intention to ever do so again.

My mother just can't understand why I can't overcome my "pettiness" and bury the hatchet with my sister....

And people wonder why I have trust issues. If you can't your own sister, who can you trust?

Apparently, no one.

Hang in there, Bro. You must be going through HELL and I REALLY feel for you.

You're not alone.

Good luck Alan. Remember this tidbit, if everybody leaves unhappy, it's a fair settlement.

Hope this situation turns out as best it can. A mediator is always the way to go. Don't be shy about being aggressive, though. They tend to lean towards the party that makes the most noise in the quietest possible way.

Kinda went thru this in a small way when my Mom passed. I"m pulling for ya, praying for ya, and hoping for good things to triumph over all the negativity that had/had or will ensue. Hang in brother. Best to you.

Alan, I feel ya. When my mom died, the family dynamic went to sh!t. We didn't end up in court, but there are several relationships within the immediate family that remain estranged to this day, and it's been seven years since my mom passed. I've had to accept what I have no control over and just love everyone the best way I can.

Best wishes to you, and prayers for reconciliation.

Alan , sending positive vibes...)))((( I hope the meeting was successful... This is a classic situation for sure... I am the care taker of my 83 Mom and 88 yr old father, they have a beauti8ful apt on the back of my home.. as they are still in very good shape for their ages.. it can be quite challenging and life absorbing on a daily basis.. I do have brother who lives exactly 4 minutes from my home.. He comes to visit a couple a times a week, ~to visit~ not to help with anything, in fact when he comes they are tripping over themselves to get him tea, coffee, lunch etc.. meanwhile I am on a slow burn over this.. Even if he would have said yrs ago , let me take them to lunch , a ride to beach..something.. No No he thinks his little visits excludes him from all the other responsibilities, caretaking, duties as a son.. There is quite a sizable estate and thank god all is already taken care.. but, it still leads to bitterness... in the end I 'd rather have my parents...rather than a bank account left from all their hard earned money..

I hope it all works out and you can become friends once again... it isn't easy.. Best of Good Luck to you.
