Just got back from our trip to Tennessee last week, spent most of the time near Waverly on the Tennessee River, but my wife and I took a side overnight trip to Memphis. Stayed at The Peabody-was cool to experience, probably never pay that much to stay there again, but was worth it once. Spent Wednesday night on Beale St. Apparently Wednesdays is Bike night on Beale, so was really cool. Lots of people, such an amazing atmosphere. There's just something so incredible about walking down the street and great LIVE blues music coming out of every door you walk past. Ate at Rum Boogie Cafe and checked out the band that was there that night, then wandered around the shops and a few of the other bars to check out those bands.
Thursday we went to Graceland. We went back and forth on whether or not to go, but decided to and very glad we did. Was a really cool experience to see it and see all the other exhibits outside the mansion.
Then we went to the Gibson factory for the tour. Another great experience, my wife even liked it!
All in all a great trip to a great town. Can't wait to go back and check out Sun Studios (ran out of time) and the Rock n Soul Museum and Stax Museum.

Thank you for posting this. I am planning on stoping in Memphis on my way back to South Jersey from Muldrow, Oklahoma after my daughter Lia gives birth to my grandson (gulp! there I said it "grandson"!) in a few weeks. I've always wanted to go to Graceland...but based on what you wrote, I may have to stay awhile longer and check out more of Memphis!

jdaunt... I had the grand experience of Memphis and Beale St. The years start to get a bit blurred as I age.. but , I believe my husband Bill and I were there in 2006... we also stayed at the Peabody Hotel.. and we ate at Rum Boogies ( on SPDB advice ) it was fabolous.. I also left my name on the rum boogies wall across from the stage area.. Loved all the guitars on display...and the music was a slice of heaven, Blues galore
A great vibe all around )))))))))) ((((((((((

We also visited Graceland, Elvis cars and planes... quite the experience.. left my name on the Graceland wall.. it was hard to find a place to write... so many signatures...

If you are a music lover, Memphis is the place, there is no place quite like Beale St...

I went to Memphis last year on the way back from Washington DC, which was fun. We thought that since Memphis was on the way back to Texas, we'd stop there for a day. We did and it was pretty fun. But we didn't get to do as much as we wanted. We ate ate Pig On Beale, which has good ribs, we also went in Memphis Music which has a great collection of blues music, saw the outside of Graceland & Sun Studios, but didn't get to tour either place. I hope I cah go back again and spend a few days there.

Thanks for posting this. I'll probably spend a couple nights in Memphis on my way to The Biscuit in October.
