Wilco performed last night, their first of two Atlanta performances. A very special surprise came when Duane Allman's beautiful Goldtop was brought all the way from the Georgia Music Hall of Fame for Nels Cline to play with a bit. Nels has been very vocal about his love for Duane and the influence he had on him coming up. Quite a respectful gesture, I think. However, I was kinda hoping for them to tear into "Whipping Post"!

For accuracy, the Gold Top is housed at The Big House Museum. GMHOF closed in June, unfortunately.

Wow! I would hope he used it for "Impossible Germany" or "Side with the Seeds," two Wilco songs that have harmony guitar parts a la the Brers.

additonal ABB connection: Nels Cline is going to be on the Tommy Bolin tribute CD that Derek and Warren are also on.

Wow..I didn't know the GMHOF closed. That's kind of shocking.

Here's an interview with Nels where he talks about a lot, including his various influences..

Nice. The other guitar player looks like Jack Black.

A guilty secret...I love the movie School of Rock with Jack Black. He's ridiculous.

That is cool. And one very special Goldtop.

From what I've heard, Nels played Duane's Goldtop on ''Impossible Germany'' AND ''Side With The Seeds''! Definite Allman like guitar harmony parts on those songs. To me, Nels solo at the end of the studio version of ''Impossible Germany'' is one of the best ever captured in the studio.

Their new album ''The While Love'' just came out on Tuesday and is excellent. Arguably the best live band touring right now.

Very cool that the gold top has been busted out. I swear that guitar upped the beacon energy a notch when it was passed around the last run. As for Wilco, no matter how much my friends who like them try to turn me on to them, I just can't get into them. I don't hate them, I just don't see what everyone else sees or hears. Same with Ryan Adams.

I do like the fact that I've heard Jeff Tweedy calling out the audience for being on their smart phones all night during their concerts. Him and Chris Robinson seem to be on the same page with being against this increasingly annoying concert activity.

Even though it's just a piece of wood, I feel somehow violated.
Perhaps because there's just a part of losing Duane Allman that I will never get past.

That thing is sure getting alot of miles on it these days. Good.

Let's see, Beacon '11, TTB 4-8-11, Atlanta, Vince Gill 5-11, Macon, TTB 7-31-11, Atlanta, and now this. Any others?

Here is Vince if you missed it the first time:

I am with you. Although that night we went to see Dylan, I did tell Ryan Adams how much I liked his outfit while waiting on line for a beer. I had no clue who he even was until you told me.

That's funny. Wilco and Ryan Adams are two of my all time favorites. Jeff Tweedy and Ryan Adams are two of the best songwriters of the last 15 years in my opinion. When Ryan was with The Cardinals, they along with Wilco were two of the best live acts going.

I have only seen them once but it was a great show. I was really impressed with their abilites, jams, audience interaction.

A must see and I hope to see them again.

So to continue hijacking the thread off topic.....

We're at the bar during this Dylan show, which was great by the way and Ryan Adams walks up to the bar and Jim's had a few drinks, and has no idea who this little hipster looking pr*ck, who seems to think he's important is and starts ripping on his outfit. (I'd rather not use the term in public forum)

If you go to shows with Jim, nobody is immune to the ball breaking. Anyway, we're laughing hysterically and Adams has no idea what to do.

The best part is our friend was dating this girl who was a stand up comic and pretty cute and she's ripping on him too. He had a look on his face like " Girls usually dig me, why is this girl making fun of me " He was with Parker Posey at the show. It was just one funny event in night of great music and laughs. Nils Lofgren sat in with Dylan the whole night.

I think the next night was the big NYC blackout, I heard Dylan did an acoustic set with just the emergency lights and candles in the center of the Hammerstien dance floor for the few hundred people who showed up. Can anyone verify that ?

OK, that sounds more like the Jim I know. Although, he won't hang out with me in public.

The thing about Ryan Adams and Wilco for me is that they have so much music (and styles) in the past 10-15 years. Not all of it does it for me...sometimes whole albums.

The part of their catalogues I like, I LOVE. Sort of like modern day Neil Young who also has put out subpar music in the past 30 years to go along with amazing stuff.
