My personal opinion regarding home field advantage in the World Series is rediculous. First let me say taking nothing away from the Cardinals winning, but.....this stupidity awarding home field advantage to a team in a league that wins an exhibition game in mid season makes no sense..At the end of the season some 160 games in teams are still playing for Home field advantage even though they are locked in the playoffs. The Cardinals had the worst record of all the playoff teams this year and yet had Home field advantage. Bud Selig is an ass. does anyone really care who wins any of the major sport leagues all star exhibition games???

dude its a sports ? has nothing to do with the Yankees .. its a point of sport.why do teams strive for a better record all year? im sure the Rangers would have liked to play the last two games in front of their fans!!!

I would have loved it! I agree it's ridiculous to try and give the All Star game meaning in this way. Best record = home field advantage, period.

Was a way to jump start the ASG. The players didn't give a crap, didn't play b/c they needed rest, etc. With something on the line, the players - at least those from teams in contention - put forth some effort.

Bud being Bud.

I am with you 100%.......completely assinine to give home field to the team in the league that won the All-Star game. A repulsive publicity grab to bring more $$$ in via the All-Star game. What idiocy, and it cheapens the game IMHO.

May I just say that as a fan, I don't really give a crap about the ASG.

Imho, Home field in the WS, should go to the best record. When in doubt, stick with tradition.

IF interleague play is to continue, it makes sense (to me) to take the record, NL v AL for the entire year to decide home field for the Series. Using the All Star game is riduculous for a few reasons...too small a sample and not every player 'has a say'. using the year long record makes interleague a bit more meaningful, all teams and all players get to play a part....

The only reason that the "status" of the All Star game changed is due to the embarrassment of the ASG that Selig ended because it was in extra innings and no position players or pitchers were left to use. Ending it in a tie showed the game really meant zilch.

So, what did Selig do to try and save a little face? Let's make the game determine home field for the WS, our most important event. It's akin to using the Pro Bowl to giving a conference's team home field for the Super Bowl.

What a dumbass.

Selig and the owners are nothing but money grubbing shills who have ruined the game.
They are adding another round to the playoffs. Now we will get sub .500 teams with a losing record making the first round of the playoffs. 8:05 starts boxed the children and working folks out because the games ended well after midnight.
That's why I don't go to Citifield anymore, I go to the Long Island Ducks where I park free and spend 10 dollars to watch some hungry kids play real baseball.

How about instituting a salary cap first so teams in small markets can actually contend for the playoffs. Unless Matt Millen is your GM, teams in the NFL have a chance to build a playoff team every year. However, since the Brewers will probably be priced out of the Prince Fielder sweepstakes, it will probably be another 30 years until they find themselves in a league championship series again. 30 teams and 5 of them make up over half of all World Series wins.

I don't mind 8:05 starts, I like to catch a game after work. But I'd rather catch a Brooklyn Cyclones or Staten Island Yankee game.

Being a Mets fan I don't think you want to know my opinion. I don't see how any Yankees fan can complain about the cards being stacked against you by not getting home field advantage for the World Series. What would have the difference been between your payroll and St. Louis' payroll had you played them???? I think the cards are stacked pretty good in the Yankees direction from the day the season starts. Your team would be considered huge favorites had you matched up against them and home field advantage would have had no effect on the outcome IMO. Yankees fans with their built in payroll advantage should be the last to complain about something like that. You are basically guaranteed a spot in the postseason every year right from the get go which is something no other baseball fans enjoy.

If you want to go with tradition what they used to do is just alternate, not give it to the team with the best record. You want the Yankees getting home field advantage each time they get that far??? That is what would happen as they are stacked for the regular season with a much higher payroll than anyone else. They are gonna have the best record most of the time.

I personally think it gives the All Star game some juice. The last couple of All Star games have been more fun to watch IMO.

Would home field advantage have kept the Rangers from blowing Game 6? They had several opportunities to wrap it up and gave up one hit after another (several by Lance Berkman who was nothing short of awful in 2010 while playing for the Yankees).

Baseball isn't a sport. Any sport you can compete in with a wad of chaw or a dip in your mouth isn't a sport, it's a pastime.

Flame on.

It's pretty lame having an exhibition game decide home field advantage. The allstar game has out lived it's usefulness with interleague play.

Big Guy this isnt a pro Yankee post... but i see the bitterness as a Met Fan...The Mets play in a different league so their results are not influenced by the Yankees. If the Mets had better management and selection of players they might be successful!!! K rod assaulting... Jose Reyes bunting and sitting out his "last" game with the Mets, The organization lacks character and class........ Bring back Nancy Seaver!!!! now that was class!! and Tom........ and Jerry
