Thought i'd let anyone in driving distance of upstate South Carolina know that Watson's Riddle will be performing a benefit concert this friday night, 12/16 at the Greenwood SC Uptown Little Theater. Ashby Stokes, a very talented guitarist will open with a set of acoustic music, sure to be joined by some very talented local musicans as well as Grammy nominated trumpeter Mark Rapp. Then, Watsons Riddle will perform some jaw droppin instrumental jazz. Tics are $20 and 1/2 the proceeds go to A. the community theater & B. to estasblish an Eddie Wayne Bailey memorial music scholarship at Hometown Lander University. Eddie Wayne was a close frinend & a very talented drummer who lost his battle with Liver cancer this past Halloween. Ed was truly one of the best human beings I've ever had the pleasure of calling "Friend"! check out his recording of you don't know me that was done just a few weeks before his passing!

Great Beesmith, I'll be the short chubby white-headed guy in row G! I'm really Looking forward to this. I understand that Ashby will not be an all acousric set, he'll have his Brother on drums, Hazen's music store partner on bass and Mark Rapp on Trumpet. they alone will be worth the price of admisson. Mark Rapp is a phenominal player! Last time he was here for a benefit, he played the Greenwood Ameican Legion one thursday night and Carnegie Hall the next thursday night! Watson's Riddle - these guys are all at the top of their game on their respective instruments. It should be a great night of music in little ole G'wd!

All I can say is WOW! What an incredible night of jzz music here in liittle ole Greenwood SC. Ashby & Friends brought a short but great set of beautifully arranged and different Christmas classics to open the show. then Watson's Riddle just smoked the old theater stage with pure instrumental bliss. The guitar interplay between Steve Watson & Rusty Milner along with Hazen Bannister on keys was outstanding. Tim Lawter & Paul Riddle were just locked into each other on the bottom end Playing intricate runs that begged you to listen the what was going on down there! the smiles all night on stage between the players told just how much they enjoy playing with each other. I've had the privelege to see a lot great Jazz in the clubs of NYC over the years, but have never seen & heard any better then what we witnessed last night, here in upstate SC. If Watson's Riddle plays a show within driving distance for you, run don't walk to check them out! you won't l;eave the show with anything but a smile and a warm feeling from what you've just seen & heard! It was just great to see Paul Rddle on stage again with a group of musicians that can keep upwith the monster behind the traps! I'm all smiles this AM! While I love the Cd and listen to it often, LIVE was something else altogether!

I couldn't agree more. That was an extremely impressive show. They all tore it up. What I'd give to hear Derek play with that crowd! Having said that, I was disappointed (for a few minutes) that Chuck wasn't there! The website didn't mention anything about him not being there. It certainly didn't change the quality of the music, but I would always jump at seeing Chuck. The show was absolutely fantastic though, and I too would recommend going to see them if they're anywhere near.

Hey Beesmith, sorry we didn't get to introduce ourselves! We were late getting there and as always at those christmas time shows we see folks that we don't see but every year or so, so we were getting grabbed and hugged by someone we haven't seen in while all night. glad you enjoyed the show. To me, the music was just more intense while watching the creation, more so than comin thru my speakers or the ipod. I wasn't really expecting chuck, but I think his real involvement was more or less on the Cd. They haven't ruled out him sitting in or playing shows with them. but my understanding that thru Paul, chuck heard some of the stuff they were laying down and expressed interest in being a part of the cd. Hazen graciously stepped back to organ only duties for the cd, cause it's chuck Leavell. Been a close friend of Hazen's since he graduated from high school and I'd put him right up there with anyone as far as chops. He certainly doesn't have chuck's command of respect for the work he's done. i was pleasantly surprised by Rusty Milner. I wasn't familiar with rusty's playing, and the times I had seen Steve play with Kinfolk, he kinda took over the guitar solo's with the other two guitarists kinda steppin back, and to see him and rusty play off each other, & rusty get so much time to shine and solo was a pleasant surprise, and it really added to the music with the two different tones. I told the wife about 1/2 thru the Wr set that I sure would love to see Derek in this mix! Glad you like the show and next time we need to shake hands say hi!

Well Beesmith, I just had a "Small world" moment! I just realized who you are! We did get introduced? by my nephew Zack, although I think I've known you since you were 5 or 6 years old! that is if your real first name is Brandon, and your parents are Dewitt & Cindy? and your sister is Whitney who was on the same gymnastics team as my daughter Mary Beth? If this is the case, are your parents still in Arkansas. folks the last time I saw this guy was at a Gregg allman show in Myrtle Beach a couple of years back! I think it is absolutely great that you had your two little boys with you at the show Friday night and are exposing them to great music at such an early age. If I'm right, please tell dewitt & cindy that we ran into each other and Hi from bill & Darlene, and we hope you & your family all have a great christmas! Too cool!

Bill, sorry for the late reply. With 3 boys, things have been crazy over Christmas time. Yes, I am that Brandon Smith. I just recently put 2 and 2 together after reading some of your posts. I didn't even realize that we saw each other that night! As you could probably tell, I was obviously pre-occupied with youngins. Those boys have gotten to see some good music. My oldest (6 year old) has seen Derek 4 times already!

You have known me for nearly 25 years. I remember my sister spending the night at y'all's house on many occasions. I actually ran into Mary Beth recentlly. We wandered into her restaurant in Charleston with our boys and talked to her for quite a while. She sounds like she's doing great. Whitney lives in Columbia with her boyfriend, and my folks moved to Arkansas. We still get to seem them often though (considering the distance).

Zach is my best buddy. He's actually my middle boy's godfather. We've long talked about how we needed to get together and talk/listen to music with you. As you probably know, Zach's dad is back in town. Zach tells me he's doing well, and we pray that he continues to do well.

We live in Florence but get back to town regularly. One of these days, we'll have to grab a beer when we're in town! Talk to you soon.
