May she rest in peace; Lord knows she suffered enough in life while giving us one of the most beautiful of voices.
This disease, alcoholism and drug addiction, sucks.....big time.

I hope they don't feel obligated to dwell on it during the Grammy show but I'm sure they will.

No doubt one of the best voices of our time. I remember that super bowl also. The Scott Norwood wide right. Giants win right before desert storm. I'll certianly never forget it. Everyone makes their own choices but I can't help but think Bobby Brown was her down fall and she never bounced back. I think she was a better pure singer than people realize since she was a product of the over produced 80's sound.

Well not my type of music, but she's easily one of the top female vocalists ever, if not the best.

Only artist to chart 7 consecutive #1 singles.
Best selling single of all time for a female vocalist.
First female artist album to ever to debut at #1.
And the list of accomplishments goes on and on.

While her marriage to Bobby Brown and personal demons took the spotlight, Whitney Houston had one of those runs in music that was extremely rare, if not unequalled in music history.

Dang, that was amazing.

I didn't realize she was only 48 years old. Also didn't know:

"She was the daughter of gospel singer Cissy Houston, the cousin of 1960s pop diva Dionne Warwick and the goddaughter of Aretha Franklin."

RIP Whitney.

I heard it in a Wal Mart...dang, what a rush....So very sad...I assume drugs and or alcohol played a role.
What a shame...so young. RIP Whitney, you had an angelic voice. It will be missed.

So sad the day before the Grammys especially. I don't think she planned it that way.I don't think anyone ever plans to die so young. So sad. She had a great voice. One of the biggest and best female voices of my generation.

Come on, I doubt you live under a rock. Whitney is perhaps more famous than Madonna, more like Barbra Streisand. Her take on Dolly Parton's song was a mega hit - http://youtu.be/YN2Mp6gu8N0

Here's the version from the movie The Bodyguard. http://youtu.be/nPHCThqqt0s Now that I think about it, she may have been even more famous than Streisand if you consider the world is mostly made up of people of color. Whitney may have had more reach at a time when commercial music distribution was expanding around the world. Maybe she wasn't as famous as Michael Jackson, but she was very close. Anyway, so very sad for her to die so young.

OK, after the deluge of Whitney consciousness, I went ahead and listened/watched (to) Houston singing the Star Spangled Banner (not my usual fare).

I recommend it to any cynic out there.

Rest in peace, indeed.

There is a basketball court size painting of artist, Keith Herring's signature "radiant babies" along the FDR Drive on the East Side of Manhattan. It was painted in the early 80s when crack was just coming around, was the "poor man's cocaine" and was devastating the inner city. It read "CRACK IS WACK".

It is the single most addictive drug ever INVENTED by mankind. Whitney echoed this sentiment in an interview with Oprah Winfrey about her drug abuse.

Crack is cocaine cooked with baking soda and God knows what else the dealers put into it. It is poison and it has taken away the lives of so many thousands of people, young and old, poor and now rich. It is nowhere near comparable to the cocaine which is its base. It is evil and there is one person who was very close to me who has been letting it eat him alive for 28 years. That's what I know about crack.

Indeed, crack is wack. What a shame.

I feel really sad about this ...

So beautiful and talented...and tragic.

A contemporary Judy Garland story.

And based solely on what we do know, I think Bobby Brown is a serious piece of ****

RIP Whitney
