Great night from Dickey & the Gents. Here's a couple videos, some better than others. It's my non hi-def rinky dink 6 yr old family camera w/no tripod. I'm set up far left. I used a railing that separate the first 10 Rows, The aisle, then me and the ol' lady.

Most folks were gracious enough to stay clear and not rock the railing. I had to stand for portions and used a pillar to lean for some stability to avoid the crowd, but it's not perfect, but it's a peak into the building. The sound is fair, but the Instant Live is rockin' and this sound grab doesn't do the band justice.

If the opportunity arises "Go see Mr. Betts & Band", Awesome time last night. I last saw them @ Mexicali Blues in NJ a few years back, they were good then, but great now, Super tight!, I remember thinking how Duane was like an apprentice on the guitar back then, How Dad & Andy handled his spots and eyes and smiles of encouragement, He's blossoming into his own, He's a taller thinner version of Dickey, but the genes not only passed down the looks but that tone also. Now when folks put those abbreviations up how DB was on tonight, They're gonna have to clarify "which" DB, Andy was his usual on, Great interplay by all on stage really, no shortage of talent on the jams. Classic "Brotherly" vibe in the building. Dickey has a mark on the music and he seemed to take each song's solos to new places. Beautiful to be in that room last night!

AM I DREAMING? OH,PLEASE GOD DONT LET THIS BE A DREAM! (IF IT IS, DONT WAKE ME UP!!!)

The man in the hat is back in the saddle!

I just watched 4 of these vids and Dickey is ((DICKEY BETTS)) again!!

He is hittin the note! Pickin that red guitar as only he can! I am so thrilled about this I just cant stop putting exclamation marks after every sentance!

This is tremendously thrilling for me. Dickey is my all time favorite electric guitar player. My primary influence.

If this means Dickey is "cleaning up" (booze, etc) PLEASE keep it up Dickey.

You are a treasure.

Wow. This is the first time in 3 or 4 years that a youtube vid of DB&GS has made me want to purchase a ticket to a show instead of avoiding it. Keep it up !!! Love to see and hear the man back in form ! When he's hitting the note, there is nothing else like it anywhere.

An honest review.

High Falls Ė nice slide work from Andy. Why does Dickey think he needs to re-work the guitar parts on his own song? The original guitar parts were just fine and sounded better.

Statesboro Blues

Duane is coming out more the way he should. Mike Kach, keyboards: heís playing a honky tonk style in a blues song, thatís why that donít sound right. Mikeís vocals are fine, he is a good vocalist.

Nothing You Can Do

A great blues song, could have used some back up singing by other band members. Mike keeps doing that honky tonk style on keyboards but the song calls for blues. Dangerous and Dickey tore this song up, comparing the current lineup of musicians to that band configuration may not be fair, but Dickey deserves that level of support , and the sound is not there from these others. Andy is more than capable, not sure why he is restraining himself in this song. Dickey shines on this, heís still got the touch.

You Donít Love Me

Andy is from the old blues school of guitar playing, makes it look so effortless, and heís so good on that slide, him and Dickey are the nucleus of the blues (as it should be), whatís going on in that drum section? Other than some cymbals, there doesnít seem to be the foundation there that should be along with a pumpiní bass, and Pedro could be turned up a notch or play with more definition, maybe staccato isnít the word for it, but thatís what Iím talkiní about. Heís just playiní, he needs to step that up on this song so that his thumpiní presence is felt as an integral support foundation to Dickey.

Franklinís Tower Blue Sky

Dickeyís vocals are nice and strong, Koch is having a good time on keys and what heís doing does work on this song. The song is nicely done, nothing wrong with it.

My Getaway

Koch gets it right on this song. Keyboards appropriate to the song, combined with his vocals, he makes the song his own and maybe that is what has not been right in the other songs. Trying to play on them , putting out too much effort in re-creating what Dickey has done with the other songs and ABB. Letís face it, we all want that re-created sound on the traditional songs and consciously or subconsciously it seems like the band is putting out resistance to doing that.

Long Time Gone

Changing the tempo on this song does not benefit it. The band does not understand the song. Dickeyís vocals, sounds schnockered. Guitar, heís fine on guitar. Andy wants to rock, but the tempo of the song is too slow for him to break away into a blistering solo. Pedro is into his funk groove, not much else he can do due the tempo of the song. This is a country song, but it ainít happeniní that way.

Jessica

Mike Kach trying not to steal Chuck Leavellís licks, does a pretty good job with what the songs needs. If you put him, Chuck Leavell and Gregg together on this song, you could have an organ/keyboard army that would blow you away. Mike has the talent, Dickey is in his element, this is his song, if there are two songs that define him it is Liz Reed and Jessica, which makes perfect sense because the passion behind both those songs are what has driven him thru his life and musical journey, profound love and profound loss which helped make him a consummate blues master guitarist. Yes, a master blues guitarist, thatís what Dickey is.

SEVEN TURNS

Miscue at beginning. Andy was not done with his lead in and Dickey began to sing. And thereís that heavy honky tonk right at the beginning of the song, no Mike, no MikeÖ.this is a country ballad, honky tonk ainít country ballad style. Dickeyís vocals are similar to those on Long Time Gone. Whoever is on the Light Board, ignored Andyís solo, and he deserved better than that.

One Way Out

Nice intro solo by Dickey. Dickey starts out with blistering guitar licks and Andy has been flawless with that slide all night. That takes pressure off Dickey to switch gears and do it, Andy is fantastic with his slide. Dickey doesnít have to do it all, he can enjoy somebody who actually plays on par with him, thatís why they are in sync. Mutual ability and respect. It can be said this is definitely a noteworthy song note wise and recognition wise. They deliver on this one.

Rambliní Man

The song needs back up vocal support from the band. Dickeyís vocals are muddied. The problem isnít from the soundboard. Mike tries to interpret what the song needs, does an okay job, but still has that honky tonk leaning, Nice to have some audience participation on it.

I'll edit the 2+ songs in I didn't originally post for the completists, I have to pre apologize for the IMOER , I had to talk to someone from the venue in the lobby as I was not in my seats. I had tix 3 Rows closer but had lower blocked angle, I laid the camera on the ledge and had Mama watch it, but Mama failed, Someone stood briefly in front of camera during drum solo portion, I returned and had slight shifting around issues. I also erred on the initial set-up and have High Falls in 2 parts only initially posting Pt 2, but with the thoughtful review Gina put up, I figured I'd put everything up.

The just under 1/2 hr IMOER, High Falls Pt 1 & No One Left To Run With will be posted later in show order, Thanx

I updated the original post to include the videos I initially left out. The sound is slightly worse standing for the IMOER & NOTRW to go along with the stabilization issues, I left it out due to that, but it's all there now.

I like a little diversity in the playing, I thought Duane was fine, He's still young and it's in the blood, Lighten up a lil on the kid? I thought they all spiced it up with subtle nuances in the solos, That added to the night!

I uploaded a couple songs for a friend and tweaked the start and end time by an enhancement tab at the Youtube video manager, There also was a button for stabilizing the video for removing the vibrations, I hit the stabilization on all the videos from DB's show last night, so I figured I'd do a bump on the thread too, Some nice ABB vibes.
