I am proud to announce the release of the Ebook

One Way Out: An Oral History of the Allman Brothers.

http://amzn.to/L1tFSF

It is their story in their words, culled from hundreds of hours of interviews, all conducted by award-winning journalist Alan Paul, starting with pieces for Request and Tower Pulse in ’89 and ’90 and running right through last month’s Guitar World.

“If you want to know the real deal, read Alan Paul.”
-Oteil Burbridge

The book includes many never-before-published interviews with band members Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Jaimoe, Butch Trucks, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, the late Allen Woody, Jack Pearson, Chuck Leavell and Jimmy Herring, plus Eric Clapton, Tom Dowd, Phil Walden, Billy Gibbons, Dr. John, Scott Boyer, Buddy Guy and others.

One Way Out is the most complete exploration of the Allman Brothers music yet written and makes for a great companion read to Gregg’s best-selling memoir My Cross to Bear. It tracks the band’s career arc from their 1969 formation through their historic 40th anniversary star-studded Beacon run, and is filled the musical and cultural insights that only these insiders can provide.

The book includes the most in-depth look at the acrimonious 2000 parting with founding guitarist Dickey Betts; an intense discussion of Dickey Betts and Duane Allman’s revolutionary guitar styles; thorough behind-the-scenes information on the recording of At Fillmore East, Layla, Eat A Peach and other classic albums. You will not find this information anywhere else.

“Alan Paul is one of America’s foremost experts on the Allman Brothers Band. For the past 20 years, he has written informative, comprehensive articles on the band, and he truly understands the essence of their significance. It’s great to see him release this chronicle.”
-E.J. Devokaitis
Curator / Archivist
Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House

Will there be a regular printed edition as well? And if not: why?
Would certainly buy a paper version.

This looks fantastic! Why was this such a secret? Just suprised Alan wouldn't have mentioned this in his many posts here. Well, it's here now, and I'm very happy.
I started a thread earlier, "I love both books" re: Gregg's and the Sandlin's, and stated that I am so glad to have lived this long to see quality books out there about the
Bros.. Here is yet another. Thanks, Alan. I'll be sure to download this

Thanks guys.

A few things: It wasn't a big secret really but I decided not to discuss it until it was done and posted. I'm not sure why and don;t know if it was the savviest thing to do. Just felt right to me.

Right now, no plans to publish as a hardcopy. I self-published this on my own schedule. It is a work of passion. I am certainly open to doing more with it, but for now... nope.

Really excited for some of you to read it and then have a discussion.

As I said, I am flying solo on this project and appreciate your help. If you read and like, please review on Amazon, post on Facebook and/or here, tell your friends...whatever.

Thanks!

Also, in terms of having read the interviews... a good deal of material in this book has never been published. I found great stuff in my notes that had to be cut out of stories for various reasons... or, for instance, if I was doing a Fillmore piece and ended up with great info on Eat a Peach and just left it in my notes...

Exactly why I'm looking forward to reading it.
Yes. The TOC will not allow a link to a particular chapter.

Very cool idea! One question: are there photos other than the cover? I realize that getting rights to publish them may have held you back from doing that and I understand. I was just hoping to see some as yet unpublished pictures. Cheers!

Mistersnappy,

No photos for your stated reasons.

I have thought of a few things I'd like to add as addendums. I may do a second volume. I hope there is a mechanism to allow people who have downloaded the book to have an updated version for free. Will try to fix the TOC and add these new sections I am considering.

Ouch, I am not a tech person. Can it be purchased to be read on a regular computer, or do you need a Kindle-type device? (I FEEL OLD TYPING THAT)

I guess you can. I haven't read all about it yet.

Download the Kindle app for PC's from Amazon (it's free). That's how I read it.

Also, it's possible for the author to work with Amazon to make the book available in print for those who want to buy it that way.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the support.

i was going to suggest downloading the Kindle Reader but you beat me to it.

I do know that amazon will publish hardcover to order. I will look into that. Several people have expressed interest.

Those of you who have read and liked the book, please review. If you don;t have much time, a rating and just a few words would suffice. It really helps.

Thanks.

Looking for some assistance, anybody. I purchased it, and it seemingly downloaded to my iPad. When I click on the book icon, which shows up in both the cloud and device tabs, it won't open. I have tried deleting and redownloading, deleting the Kindle app and reinstalling to redownload, and I get the same thing. Am I overlooking something? This is the first e-book I have purchased through Amazon, so I am wondering if I skipped a step.

Thanks.

Blooby
