God the NHL is a mess. Bettman is just awful IMO. And I don't think adding Donald Fehr into the mix is going to help matters. There is an article in this morning's Chicago Tribune about Fehr. Seems like just another wrench in the issue to gum up the works.

From this morning's Chicago Tribune:

"...there's reason to believe a season will happen, that the sides will realize they must compromise or they will cause lasting damage to a game that manages to survive despite the people who run it."

Truer words could not be written.

Nice win by the US jr's. Is that 2 gold's in a row? Or 2 of 3.

Canada is not producing the blue chip goaltenders we once did. Everything runs in cycles I am sure we wil be back in gold medal seat one of these years.

Next year the jr's are in Sweden. Maybe they can schedule game time starts a little better in 2013. 1 am starts are a no go for this kid watching.

Bettman and Fehr are gumming up everything. Media thought the two sides we're close earlier this week then things turned sideways again.

NHL Players are as out to lunch as the owners.

Goodell,Selig and Bettman all suck donkey balls but I would have to agree with you Bettman is head and shoulders above the rest in suckage.

Pete, I guess it goes to the adage of millionaires fighting with billionaires. It is a shame. And I totally agree with that columnist that the NHL is in the worst shape of the "major" four sports so you would think some common sense would come into play or nobody will care about the game. Hell, they can't even get a U.S. national television contract (save for a few games on NBC at the end of the season).

And oh by the way, most of the teams are in the U.S.

I'm still not sure what I will do when NHL hockey returns. Do I ignore it, peek in or just forget that the wealthy bastards take take take and don't ever give back.

Especially when it comes to the Leafs.

Problem is going to be Saturday nights and HNIC. If the Leafs suck again and why shouldn't they than ignoring the early game will be easy. I hate the Canucks so ignoring the late game is a snap.

If the leafs complete a firesale for Luongo then I wil definitly be happy to ignore them.

I know i will not buy NHL gear, Molson Cdn or Coors light.

I am an Esso Shareholder so I can't boycott my dividend buds. I will boycott something just not sure what.

Hmmm what to do? I was thinking today how nice it will be to hear Bob Cole's voice again.

What a conundrum.

Family Guy had a great 30 second "Canadian Horror Story" spot.

The guy says to wife "We're all out of Molson", she says there's Labatt in the garage, bring one back for the ghost.

Ghost says "Boo, eh?"

And still 75% of the revenue comes from Canada. Considering how strong some US teams are, that shows how many are just losing money.

Let's fire some millionaires and bring the league down to 20 teams. Better hockey that way.

Toronto fires Brian Burke! Mixed emotions from many Leafs fans. Rumor has it that he didn't want to get Luongo which I agree with. I would have been fired too then.

Luongo rumour doesn;t add up. Burke and Nonis brought Bobby Lou to Vancouver. If Burke gets fired for not wanting Luongo how could Nonis step in and say no problem with Luongo in my books.

Burke has been Nonis's mentor for years. I don't see Nonis sticking Burke in the back over this

I think Burke is not doing well either physically or maybe mentally. The guy has been through a lot. Lost a son, marital issues, team sucks, etc, etc.

He was moved up to a senior adviser position to take some of the stress off his plate.

He wasn't fired but promoted and Nonis being his most loyal guy will do the dirty work as he has done throughout the years.

I was excited to hear about firing until I heard Burke will still be with organization and Nonis will be new GM. It smells funny.

Toronto can't even get their act straight firing their biggest problem.

Some things just don't change.

You can't fix stoopid.

Going from President and GM to an advisor is a promotion? What the hell do the Leafs put in that blue water? You guys believe anything.

Burke will be a GM next season and they will be out of his deal. If not for the timing then Nonis would likely be gone too. He is more controlable then Burke and he will make the Luongo deal that the owner group wants. Burke takes the fall for the Kessel trade but Nonis was a big part of all those deals too. The scouting really let Burke down also as their draft picks haven't orked out at all.

I bet the Leafs make the playoffs this season. At least one round.

It is if your still getting your 6 mill a year salary and have less to do.

As I know you follow the leafs only to wallow in their pool of failure I think I am on to something and you are not.

Nonis and Burke are like father and son so either Nonis stabbed his dad in the back and said he would agree to go after Loungo (which I doubt) or the whole Loungo situation has been dropped and all have agreed to go on with Reimer and Scrivens.

I can't see Nonis saying f burke (life time mentor, friend, drinking buddy, father figure employer) I'm with the guys at Bell and Rogers we need Bobby Lou.

He would have walked out of boardroom with Burke.

If Loungo shows up in Taranaha in 2 weeks I guess Nonis is a weasel snake rat bastard.

Also rumours abound that Burke had a lot of fun out on the town, dabbling in this and that, sleeping around town, divorcing his wife, getting a woman preggers that was not his wife, etc. etc. This guy was a ticking time bomb and MLSE had to pull the pin before he sunk the ship any further.

I was listening to Mike and Mike and D. Patrick today and not a hint of this story was discussed. Its definilty better then the "see you at the bus Carmelo Anthony story" or the "Dan Kelly to Eagles" story. Amazing how ignored hockey is in the states.
