Very sad day indeed. There was no one like him before or since. Mr. Hockey indeed. RIP Gordie!

I am glad he is at peace.

....& compounding it all for Red Wings fans is, after 25 straight years, postseason pucks likely won't drop in Det.
a statue of the great man was just unveiled yesterday in Toronto
at the same time, Jimmy Howard returned &, sure enough, Wings beat ChiHawks last night

at any rate, yes, it was a fluke last postseason en Canada -- postseason pucks will drop everywhere norta-da border -- Canadiens have played well in 1st year w/out longtime Hab PK Subban -- in the nation's capital, Sens, right on Habs' heels

wottabout Calgary tho -- wotta stampede -- 8 straight
& Edmtn -- also playoff-bound under leadership of team capt./rookie phenom Connor McDavid -- big 1-year turnarounds for both Canadian squads -- we pay 'em a visit next week

playoffs do begin for us today --
15 games left, it's a 9-of-15 format to see who comes in below that awesome Met. Div. 4some of Wash., Pitts., CBJ & Rangiz..........CBJ??? turncoats have turned Blue Jackets -- where did their 1-year turnarnd come from

OK, to the chase -- same thing every year, Phila comes in for Sat matinee, we run em outta town -- they're lacing em up right now & beating the hated Flyiz 2day is more of a must than ever --
but yes, same thing as last 2 years -- we won't know till the end if playoff bound or not

...."at the end of the day, it is what it is.........." goes the current cliché

ChiHawks

I think they'll get it this year -- they're right on resurgent MN's heels, still in contention for reg.-season title -- they still remember their early playoff exit last year, to a very good St.L squad

crystal ball reveals ChiHawks-NYR final

Happy Birthday, Zdeno
His birthday always falls in crunch time -- this year I think Zdeno, 40, & the B's will extend their season
David Ortiz, Tom Brady (40 in Aug.), & now Zdeno -- athletes who have lost little at 40 years old -- let's go B's

W/all those savvy veterans, who'd a thunk SJ Sharks to be freefalling like they are -- Joe T has had an OK year but not great -- Logan Couture has been out w/a tough injury (puck to mouth), he's an important player for them

but it's a set-in-stone west conf playoff field, & there would be no first-round upsets, they're all equal -- ChiHawks could again face St.L 1st round

It all comes down to simple math
if we don't arrive in Chi. tmrw on a 4-game win streak, chances of postseason participation drop drastically

at home, w/playoffs on line & an amped-up matinee crowd filing in as we speak, against a so-so team, we should be primed -- we've played well last 2 games

Tuukka plays today, Anton tmrw

RIP Gary Doak -- Doakie was great, a solid hard working long time defenseman

Well no Red Wings this year. Man I don’t know what to do with myself this spring (guess I could cheer for Ottawa!) anyway, it had come to be a given. What run though? Was watching their closing game yesterday and one of the commenters mentioned the Wings played in 309 playoff games in that streak, unbelievable.

Can Washington finally break through? Will Chicago do it again? Can Pittsburgh Repeat? Is Columbus for real? What will be the biggest upset? Who’s the dark horse?

The Red Wings streak is an example of excellent coaching, amazing drafting and of course some great players. Had to come to an end sometime. I didn't think it would last this long as I used to joke with our old friend Jack (RIP).

Biggest upset with be the Leafs over the Caps. Penguins lose to Columbus as back to back seems to be pretty hard an the Pens always seem to have an off playoff after winning.

Washington always screws up somehow and those young kids are scary with nothing to lose.

I am cheering for Ottawa in the East. It is the only way that I will be able to watch the Hawks win the Cup in person.

They're a significant dark horse alright James (Ott) -- they've smoked us this year and are effective I noticed at clogging up the center of the ice -- B's struggled to set up offense, because of that effective D they played

NYR over Habs in a beauty of a 1st rnder -- feel bad but staying w/NYR as cup finalist
Good point about Leafs, great turnaround this yr, Caps over TML
Pitts-CBJ, who knows - 2 cup-worthy teams

ChiHawks>Nshvl, St.L>MN (Blues are hot right now),
that 4-way Pacific race was almost as good as the Met race -- impsbl 2 pick

We can beat them I think -- would rather have played Wash in 1st round, that 3-1 game the other day left more ?s unanswered than answered -- but Ottawa is still really good -- this one too is impsble to pick, never would I pick against the Bruins, it was bad enough seeing it for NY as east finalist

We can beat em -- let's go B's, watta team -- Tuukka, Zdeno, Bergey, Marchand, Pastrank -- Sens might never know what hit em, who knows

Ottawa is over looked by many, Stephen. Their record against top teams this year is great. Anderson is also a much better goalie than many give him credit for and with his wife's cancer illness this season, who knows? He has played lights out when not with his wife for treatment. That sort of thing really bonds a team. Much depends on Karlsson's health.

Will be a good series.

For sure -- looks like Karlsson will be out there -- Torey Krug (knee) & Brandon Carlo (cncsn prtcl) won't be, so we'll get a look at D Charlie McAvoy, 19, our top draft puck & former BU All American -- tough intro to the NHL for the kid
the sentence in the paper this morning said it well
"You know the drill: if it's Tuukka Time the B's can get past the Sens, then past Pittsburgh if things went right....."
B's will prevail in 7 close games

As to the rest
Rangiz 7 over Habs (games played are a tough pick -- I'm bad at math )
CBJ ousts def.-titlist Pitts, so that both Pens & Sens exit 1st round -- they had biggest 1-yr turnaround
Wash 5 over Leafs

ChiHawks have amassed 58 points since Jan 1 & is streaking -- 5 over PK Subban &......Preds?? haha
Thinking James, that ChiHawks glad to have avoided Blues -- 6 over MN

Will the two upstart Canadian teams eliminate the established playoff stalwarts from Calif.....
Shahks starting out minus Joe T & Couture -- Oiliz have Art Ross winner David McConnor, I mean Connor McDavid, & Leon.....wattalast name, just noticed it in scoring column today

Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf & AMDucks won tough Pac div. for 4th year in a row -- like Hawks & Caps, 1 of the league's winningest franchises

have to give it to Edmntn, it's their time -- Ducks oust much-improved Flames

I gotta have at least one major upset. I mean it’s not really the first round unless there is one right?. Being a life long Red Wings fan, Gods knows I witnessed that more times then I cared to.

That being said I really really want to see Ovie and the Caps get a cup. Such a great team this year top to bottom, coach, etc. However !

TO vs Wash = TO in 7 OT (the city will lose its mind. They will actually have a parade for that alone)
Pitts vs Colum = Pitts in 6
Mtl. vs NYR = Mtl. In 6
Ott vs Bos = Ott in 7
Chi. Vs Nash = Chi in 5
Min vs St.L = Min in 6
Cal. Vs Ana = Ana in 5
Edm. Vs SJ = Edm 6

Breezy, the ashes of the late Red Wings 1990s-era enforcer Bob Probert were spread in the penalty box of Joe Louis Arena -- that's gotta be the most appropriate tribute ever

when Probert & Wings played Tie Domi & Leafs one time, the game was secondary to all the talk of what their inevitable fight would be like -- sure enough, 1 minute into the game, although that one was more of a wrestling match IIRC

Krug is crucial yes, but Carlo almost as much so -- will the kids (McAvoy, JFKarlsson etc) have an impact -- I like our chances, let's go B's

Well 1st round is done and Nashville wasn’t the upset I had in mind, but hey hats off to the Preds or rotten tomatoes at the Hawks. Guess it depends on who you cheer for.
Anyway there was our upset! Really had a feeling that if the Caps got by the Leafs (who really gave them a run) that we may see the Hawks & Caps in the final.

As I said earlier. Want to see Ovie get a cup, but the way they could never really dominate against a very young and inexperienced Leafs team. I have my doubts now.
Wash vs Pitts = Pitts in 6

Montreal was pulling for them, but not surprised

Ottawa yeah (live in the city but not really a fan), but after all Clark McArthur has been through the last two seasons. How can anyone not like that. Wonderful that was wonderful last night
OTT vs NYR = Ott in 5

I really thought Minnesota had more juice then that!
Nash vs St.L = Smashville in 5

Father time has finally caught up to San Jose, Edmonton was a horse. However Anaheim is not SJ.
Edm. vs Ana = Ducks in 4 (maybe 5) ** would love to see the Oilers take it, but I think they need one more year.
