If your signal supplier has AXS TV (formally HD.Net) the Tedeschi Trucks Band will be on tonight at 11:45 ET. They will also be running Music marathons on AXS this weekend. Country one day and Classic Rock the next, Sunday & MOnday. This is the same channel that aired the Gregg Allman & Friends show from Sturgis a couple of months back!

I was looking forward to watching this tonight until it just dawned on me that since it's live, it won't be aired until well after my weeknight bed time given I live in the eastern time zone. I hope they rebroadcast it at a more reasonable hour over the weekend.

It's ch. 783 on Comcast. It's the old HD Net channel.

This band is so underutilized....."Get what you deserve" rocked, not because Susan was not singing, but because the tempo was upbeat.. And now Susan is back on stage and.....s l o w......

Why all the players?...listening to this, they could get by as a four piece band backing up Susan's vocals. Derek is like a Ferrari being driven at full speed down a residential street....He is such an emotional player and his fills are more than adequate, but at times here his soloing sounds somewhat obligatory....

That sure was fun last night! Awesome show, great picture & sound! I was gonna watch a few songs and give it up and take my old ass to bed. Stayed with 'em til the last note was played! I'm draggin at work this morning, but it's a short day, & I got a big smile on my face! Nice to get a Derek Trucks fix, mid-week, in my own livin room! Great to see Todd Smallie's smiling face, sittin in on bass for a song last night as well!

Since I had to work today, I wasn't willing to stay up until 2:00 AM or so to watch the show. Does anyone know if AXS will be rebroadcasting it over the holiday weekend? I checked on both the Tedeschi/Trucks and AXS websites and found nothing. Anyone?

It was great, but I have Dish Network and they cut in with their self promo commercials a couple times and cut off the end. It looked like Susan was prodding the audience to bring them back for another encore, but it ended then. Not sure if the other providers kept it going, since there was at least 15 minutes left on the programming time.

I have Dish Network too so should I ever catch a rebroadcast of this show, I guess I should expect the same interruptions. Dish is a pain in the @ss sometimes.

Dish indeed is a pain in the a$$, to put it mildly. I watched part of it on my DVR.
But the audio sucked. It seemed like someone was playing with the volume control, turning it up, then down. Maybe it was just my tin ears, but my wife can hear it also.

Then, There were dropouts throughout. The sound, suddenly was not there, then suddenly it was. Did anyone else get these dropouts?

I only watched about half of it and turned it off.

I was going to record it to DVD DL, cut out the commercials and place chapter marks at the beginning of each song. But the way it is on my DVR, it isn't worth my time.

Dish Network sucks.

I have Atlantic Broadband cable.
I have the audio dropouts.
And the lack of the encore also.
After reading this thread, I'm guessing the issues were with AXS.tv.

Ahh, OK. So it isn't just on my end. it's AXS. Thanks.
I liked HDNet better.

Still a great concert,

I am sure they could pull off these same songs with a four piece band, but the power ( and the glory!) of TTB is the size of the ensemble. I haven't seen them in person yet (tickets in hand for 10/18) but have seen and heard them live a bunch and you can see what they are doing with the layers and dynamics of most of the songs. Many groups don't (can't) focus on building a song by adding and removing layers of sound and dynamic (volume) changes.

According to many interviews of both Susan and Derek, they wrote the songs for Revelator to be a song-based album so they would have a basis of songs to perform that would stand the test of time.

We may not all agree with this approach (with Derek being reigned in with his playing), but I believe they had a plan to write great songs, find the right band for these songs, take it on the road and make great music. I think they are succeeding.

I would swear that Derek used a pick during the Stevie Wonder tune.

I think Derek is an artist who appreciates the value of negative space, of knowing when NOT to play. Jimmy Herring once told me he admired Derek is this regard, and that even when Derek was still a young child prodigy, he wasn't afraid of silence. Where many players would rush to fill the void with sound, Derek is good at laying back and letting the music breathe when necessary.

I feel there is a similar aesthetic at work in terms of the orchestration in TTB. Just because you have a big horn section doesn't mean they need to be playing all the time. It's easy to be loud as a big 11 piece band, but it doesn't hit as hard if you're just cranking it up to 11 all the time without any dynamics.

During a symphony performance, there might be whole movements when the strings aren't playing, or the woodwinds don't play for a while. That doesn't mean they don't serve a purpose, or that they are extraneous if they aren't constantly part of the music.

I was struck during the Peach Fest webcast by how the band could get very quiet at times, but when it was time to bring the thunder, they had a tremendously powerful sound. That leads me to believe that the quiet parts are there on purpose, helping bring the peaks into sharper focus.

That may not be what some people want to hear from Derek, but I thought the dynamics of the Peach Fest performance were almost orchestral in scope. I think this band is really on to something.

Does anybody have the Set List for this show? Mine ended after about 2:05 minutes, right as they walked off the stage. I'm guessing they did not show some encores. They have been ending many shows with Simple Song>Take You Higher. But I have not watched the whole broadcast yet so I'm not sure if they were played. Coincidentally I just saw "the Family Stone" play yesterday at a free neighborhood fest and they of course played them both!
