What a major bunch of whining B.S. Of course, since I support Obama I'm not included in We the People who think they have a lock on patriotism. That's five minutes of my life I'll never get back.

I think it's a great overall message and you disagree. Pretty much shows exactly where we're at.

Nos Populus: We The People

A few years ago President Bush said, “History moves toward freedom because the desire for freedom is written in every human heart.” Let us add that we will preserve it only as long as devotion to freedom is expressed in the heart of our actions.

Frank Zappa: Teenage Wind

YES, WE WANT TO BE FREE AND WE'RE GONNA BE FREE
... did you know that
FREE IS WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE TO
PAY FOR NOTHING
OR DO NOTHING
WE WANT TO BE FREE
FREE AS THE WIND

Pretty much. I don't have a problem with the general message...I do have a serious problem with one group of people thinking they have a lock on we the people..

LOL...that video is pretty dramatic and a bit over the top. As I watched it I was thinking it would have been just as appropriate 8 years ago. While I believe in self-determination, less government intrusion, and getting back the Constitution as much as the next guy, the problem I have with this video is it doesn't recognize that this is not a new issue that began with the current administration. It's been an issue for many many years, many administrations, and will continue to be an issue regardless of who wins the upcoming election. In fact, it would have been more appropriate if it had been addressed to both candidates, not just Obama. Actually it should have been addressed to all candidates for any elected office in the federal government. But it wasn't intended to highlight a problem with our current government, it was intended to inflame partisans, so I guess it wouldn't work to address it to all responsible parties.

If you want a glimpse into the minds of the people this appeals to spend a little time reading the comments. They make discussions in the Whipping Post seem like polite debates among intellectuals.

" Nowhere is there more talk of Liberty than in a state where it has ceased to exist"

from the notes of the Swiss ambassador, commenting on the Reign of Terror after the French Revolution.

I don't have a problem with the general message

I don't either, but that is because there is absolutely no general message, just a bunch of hot air about "freedom". Pres. Bush going on about "the desire for freedom...etc" what a joke, out of his mouth "freedom" just meant an excuse to bomb the sh*t out of Iraq for oil.

Freedom my *ss. When that word comes out of a politician's mouth it is a curse.

It's geared towards the Teabilly way of thinking. Trying to paint an imaginary narrative against an Obama that doesn't exist, sad and ignorant bunch who believe that fantasy.

Seems like a good, positive message no matter who the President happens to be and now that just happens to be Obama. Yes, eight years ago would have been just as appropriate and it should apply to both parties, ect. I don't disagree.

Just substitute (any President) whenever Obama is mentioned. It's interesting that folks would put the defense of Obama (or any President) over the ideas of freedom and the power of the individual, but sadly that's where the sensitivity seems to lie. Really does show where were at.

Then why did the piece have to be pointed directly against Obama? Seems that's where the problem is, not with the people who agree with the sentiment but think it shouldn't have been a partisan piece.

All the points mentioned as concerns are the exact reasons why so many millions seek to come here. Why do you think that is? To get away from those concerns. That's where the problems are.

I'm agreeing with you...I'm just asking why it those sentiments had to be expressed in a piece that trashes Obama....which makes it a partisan piece and we're ALL Americans.

I couldn't watch it, because of that schmaltzy propaganda patriotic music, but I read every word of the text twice, looking for any trace of a point, and there was nothing there, just a whole lot of references to "freedom", which could mean pretty much anything depending on who's doing the talking. Seems like the people who use that word the most are the ones most against it.

I'll give you your point that millions have come here, but for the most part that is to get a piece of the pie. Most people in the world, including Americans, would have no idea how to handle real freedom. Closest we got was the 1960's. and that was pretty much of a botch job, after the CIA laced the whole show with acid.

What's the first thing you think when you see someone actually close to being free? someone who doesn't mesh with consensus programming and who couldn't give a sh*t about money or any other social control systems? F*king bum ? Antisocial freak? Answer that honestly and you will know how much you really care for freedom.

Trying to discuss freedom on the internet is like the Sioux discussing their next buffalo hunt while waiting to get massacred at Wounded Knee, years after the herds were decimated.

In other words, a joke.

Looking back and remembering constant outcry from the Left, I'd say it certainly WAS an issue of concern five years ago....Big time.

Now not so much. Not quite as comfortable to talk about now, so let's just dismiss the whole idea.

Classic.

Not gonna fool me I quit buying into that knee-jerk, nationalistic crap a long time ago, freedom should be a given no matter where on the planet you live. USA sits on some really nice land but most of the people that run it are idiots.

There is an old Russian proverb that goes something like, "people eventually get the government that they deserve."

The southern cartoon character, Pogo once observed, "we have met the enemy and it is us."

Maybe we are run by idiots, but is WE who keep electing them!

You either believe in the constitution as it is written or you don't everyone can make their own choice BUT you can not pick bits and pieces of it and call yourself a patriot...

Which version? The current version, or the one that had the three-fifths clause, or the one that prohibited alcohol...

There's that word again, Patriot....The Constitution, as Bhawk so astutely hints at, is a living document always being reinterpreted by presidents, legislators, and courts of law. That's the genius of it.
