Nice Idea and I agree, but it won't happen . People are still going to watch.
I say the exact samething about outlandish concert prices from Tickectmaster,Live Nation,Ticket Brokers... but it wont stop either.

I'm pretty sure all NFL TV deals are under multi-year contracts. The NFL is getting paid regardless of TV ratings. With only 16 games in a season, fans are gonna go to the games and watch on TV.

Regarding the now infamous "bad call" between the Packers and ... whoever that was that they were playing (sorry, but I quit watching pro sports many years ago).

Had this very same call been made by the regular, everyday UNION officials - I firmly believe that it would never had reached the level of outrage that it has. This call and the constant replaying on various sports and news outlets is obviously a ploy used by the "real" ref's to ignite outrage among fans.

Do you think the "real" ref's never make bad calls? Hell yes they do! There's not a soul among us who is not capable of making a mistake on their job.

I've been around football for most of my life, and that call on that play was not an easy one to make. Was there offensive pass interference? Who last had their hands on the ball when both (or all) the players finally hit the ground?

The replacement ("bogus", if you prefer) officials - like their "regular" counterparts definitely make made calls from time to time. Fact is, they probably get it right more often than they get it wrong.

Now, fire away!

I'm not going to not watch football because of referees.

sorry man, I'm watching. I love football.

granted, it's tougher to do these days but I can recall some pretty horrible calls in years past by some very good regular refs. The SD/Denver game for one by Markwright or whatever his name is 2,3 years ago...

I won't let that detract from my love of the game.

GO PATS !!!!!

forget the boycotting stuff aint workin. contracts are in place and fans who are pissed and have a right to be. are going to still watch and attend games.. its not the players the fans are pissed with so the fans wont stop doin games...
in reference to the last play the other nite. there is not grey area. it was clearly an interception, after an offensive pass interference. and then the simultaneous catch rule, had nothing to do with it......... understand earlier in that game . there were calls to keep scoring drives alive , that should nt been called and that was effecting the out put of the game.
lets just understand all referees make mistakes, its the human factor.. but these "zebras"are under trained over matched and intimated by the coaches, and players..... wheres Enrico Pallatzoo when you need him..
The refs should be gone asap.... the integrity of the game and the safety of players is so in jeopardy.......... but until it changes.. thats the playing field....
AND GO GIANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the Game also. And I'm a Seahawk fan!
But after watching the Coach, the QB, and the Receiver smiling and looking into the camera
after that terrible call, I can't even watch My Team right now. It was embarrasing.

But I could change my mind come Sunday :-)

I agree.

there was pass interference but i've heard a million times even with the pro refs, you don't make that call at the end of a game, you let them play.

the interception, well looked to me like both players had hands on the ball. i don't think there are degrees of a tie, like you must have one hand and 3 fingers or the other guy caught it.

doesn't matter that both players had a hand on the ball. both players must CATCH the ball at the same time. jennings caught the pass and oulled it to his chest. after that golden tate took his hand and put it over the ball. a simultaneous catch is best looked at from the point of view "would tate have a catch if jennings never touched the ball and would jennings have a catch if tate never touched the ball?". since jennings caught the pass yes he would still catch it. since tate only touched the ball after jennings cradled it against his chest then no tate was in no position to make a catch unless you think tate was going to take 1 arm and pin it against jennings chest

As a long-time Packer fan, I was floored watching the last drive of that game. It's not the first time a game has been decided by a questionable call (or a series of them), but the first time those calls have such little faith from those on the field. Just spotting the ball seems to be an issue. The past few weeks, they have not only blown calls that nearly decided games (the 49ers 4 time outs, the 12 extra yards given to the Titans), but also missed calls that could hurt have potentially hurt someone (Matt Shaub's near beheading, the hat that some Cowboys receiver tripped on in the end zone). If player safety is a concern of Goodell's, the NFL should be eager to solve this issue, but it's exposing the NFL as miserly - more worried about meager piece of the pie that pro officials probably deserve, and future law suits that injured players might put forth.

Everyone keeps talking about the final play of the Seattle-GB game, obviously because it had the biggest impact on the outcome of the game (two refs couldn't even agree on it immediately and made the call without conferring), but as one of the fans who didn't think the replacement refs would have much negative impact on the quality of the game, it's definitely gotten out of hand. The mayhem that ensued immediately after the supposed TD call, and before the game was officially over, is the problem - there has been a growing discord and lack of respect towards these refs and they can't keep order on the field. The blatantly cheap hit to the face that Jennings received gets no call, but Wilson got a roughing the passer penalty when he was clearly outside of the tackles and was clearly near the time the ball left his hands shows a complete lack of consistency.

Of course, no ref crew is going to get every call right, but if the most violent sport in the country is going to continue to be the greatest sports business in the USA (and it still is), they need the highest caliber of crews to keep order on field for not just the sake of quality competition, but for everyone's safety. The NFL has already refused to admit that the TD was the wrong call because they are stubborn and can't give the refs any credit, so hopefully the silver lining is the Packers will play angry with something to prove the rest of the way.

Go Pack Go.

Let's not forget that there were 2 blown calls. Or should I say 1 call and 1 non-call.
The receiver pushed one of the defenders to the ground.
Hope these reports about Refs coming back this weekend are true.

I realize these replacement Refs are trying but the game is just too fast for them.

I'm sure if the call went against Seattle the Packers coach and players would hang there heads and walk off the field in shame LOL .

I felt bad for Seahawks fans, their defense killed us all first half, it was an excellent battle of attrition for most of the game. I wouldn't have felt bad losing to them, especially after 8 sacks in the first half. I understand Wilson is a rookie and wants to be excited after such a huge game and can't come out and say "we stole this game", and no receiver is going to admit to pass interference, but Pete Carroll is the real dickhead. As a coach you have to be a little objective, realize there is a huge issue that happened to go your way this time, and might not next time. But this is a guy who jumped from USC just as the ship was going down so you can't be too surprised.

That doesn't even make sense. No offense but if the Refs had called the play against Seattle,
like they should have, the Packers would have had every reason to celebrate.

And once again, I'm a Seahawk fan.

I meant if the play went down different , not that exact play , I worded it wrong . Do you think the Packers would not celebrate if Seattle were the ones that got screwed , ( in a different situation ) , I think not .

I was at the game and it's a real shame the real refs were not used , this game could have gone down as a Monday Night classic instead it goes down as a farce , there were terribles calls throughout with the last called being the icing on the cake .

Good news. Game on. And I'll be watching. Hello Redzone. Unless Sunday is a gorgeous day, then I'll be hiking. What, with the Bears on Monday and all.

Well, the pro refs are back. I am amazed at how soon they will be back - for the tonight's night game. Still makes me a little nervous, these crews haven't had pre-season to shake the rust off. But even if the calls won't be perfect (they never are) at least there will be respect for them on the field. So hopefully when the Bears lose on Monday night, it will be legit.
