Given this recent health issue, I'd be willing to bet that VH will not be playing the Super Bowl half time show:

"Eddie Van Halen underwent an emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis. No further surgeries are needed and a full recovery is expected within 4 - 6 months.

Van Halen's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled and the band looks forward to seeing and playing for their fans in 2013."

At a recent family gathering, my cousins & I were discussing possible rock bands that might be considered for the Superbowl half time show. Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band gets the McCarthy family vote!

Has AC/DC done it yet? They would be a good fit.

I have always thought that whoever plays should be from the USA.

Who cares!!!! All I care about that day is watching what will hopefully be a very good football game. All of the other 6 hour pregame cr@pola and the hour long halftime mini concert mean absolutely nothing to me and I actually loathe all of it. It is the biggest football game of the year and that is what the focus should be on IMO. I guess they have to give the people crazy enough to spend $750.00 for a ticket something for their money and they figure the game itself doesn't warrant those crazy prices?? If it were up to me there would be no more halftime concert and halftime would be the same exact length that it always is. Just my two cents.

Van Halen to me is all about their debut album.

I never got into much after that.

Yeah! Why not the ABB? Not commercial enough? Not enough time would probably
be the only problem. They could play "Melissa" and "Midnight Rider" and maybe one more.
The only problem would be the Network would want them to play "Ramblin' Man" and we all no
thats Not gonna happen.

Third Eye Blind should do it because they only have 3 songs anyway.

Statesboro Blues
Midnight Rider
Whipping Post

It would kick ass as there would be a bit of room to stretch out. Gets my vote. Won't happen but it should.

Jack White, audio portion of the Superbowl Halftime Extravaganza always sucks anyway.

Sounds like from that other thread that his sets aren't long enough to fill a half-time show.

I'm definitely not a VH fan, but it could be worse. They could get someone like Beyonce.
