After seeing Lincoln this afternoon I couldn't help but immediately think about Duane and his choice of Jaimoe as the 2nd member of The Allman Brothers Band.. Duane clearly was a visionary in more ways than one.

I think Duane picked Jaimoe to be in his band, because he was/is a great and very unique drummer, and thats all.

right, but there weren't a lot of multi racial bands back then, especially in the South.
Duane, and the rest of the brothers, deserve a lot of credit. Especially Duane.

I agree. I don't think Duane had a vision for a multi-racial band it just happened and he made a damn fine choice. It was a natural process and they indeed deserve credit for it. But i think it wasn't a planned anti-racism statement. If you pick a bandmember purely for that reason wouldn't that in itself be a bit racist? Just my 2 cents.

It would be interesting to hear Jaimoe's perspective. He might have discussed it at some point in an interview but I dont recall his comments.

When part of cuttin your chops came from being at Muscle Shoals, I really doubt if race was any factor, the music came first and I believe Duane was above all that racial crap. Booker T broke that barrier years before anyways.

WOW -- interesting segue to say the least bro --
Honest Abe would have approved of Jaimoe being in the band -- but only if it was on that basis -- Honest -- which it was -- so yes, Duane showed Lincolnesque qualities indeed, in hearing the greatness in Jaimoe's playing & how important he'd be in the music they envisioned etc...

Not understanding the Lincoln connection. Lincoln was elected on his views which were well expressed during the presidental debates with Douglas, views that don't exatly make him the savior of humanity.

I think Jaimoe was just a damn good drummer and DA had an eye for talent. I still marvel at the lineup of the band. A man of vision.

There are musicians, guys who play guitar, guys who play drums -etc. ... then there are "cats". Duane and Jaimoe were/are definitely "cats"!

Very glad that Jaimoe and Lamar got the jobs because of their abilities and compatible personalities. Definitely a credit to Duane, but also Berry, Dickey, Butch and Gregg.

On a very politically incorrect note, someone at work told me that the movie Lincoln was so boring he was rooting for the part where Abe goes to the theater
