Just got a great find on E-Bay: Delaney & Bonnie - Motel Shot. I'd been looking for this for awhile and was lucky to find a Japanese import (out of print here) from where else - Japan. Cost me $30 but well worth it.

For anyone not familiar with this record it features Duane Allman, Gram Parsons, Leon Russell, Dave Mason and most of the "Dominos" band that made the Layla album.

Hearing Duane's acoustic slide on "Sing My Way Home" is worth the price of the cd. No one played slide like Duane and its clear on this song.

If you see it anywhere in a discount/used cd/album bin, pick it up

That's a pretty impressive line up.

I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

Pulled this out and gave it a listen....Imho, it is electric slide, played way up the neck...add, I'll wager Derek loves this song.

"Don't want me around" W/ KIng Curtis. Duane kicks in at 2:40 is down in the mix and cranks it up....

Can't remember if I had heard this before....

My local record store owner turned me on to this cd many years ago. He always keeps a copy in his store. It's definitely one of my favorite's. Good find, Neil!

And don't forget Delaney & Bonnie, too!

Yup the only time Duane crossed paths with Gram Parsons, so sad they never got together again.

I picked a very good copy of this a few years ago from a flea market for £2.OO. I transfered it to cd last year. It sounds great through headphones.

It's a great, timeless album. Here's my entry for Motel Shot from the Best Southern Rock Albums appendix to One Way Out:

Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, Motel Shot (Atco, 1971)
The husband and wife team of Delaney and Bonnie Bramlett presided over a traveling Southern rock/swamp/boogie/gospel/blues road show which featured at various times Eric Clapton, Duane Allman, Leon Russell, country-rock pioneer Gram Parsons and the entire Derek and the Dominos rhythm section. All are present on this remarkable all-acoustic album, cut for $895 in a Los Angeles hotel room. Some of its best tracks are available on The Best of Delaney and Bonnie, but Motel Shot has to be heard in its entirety. Not necessarily rock, but definitely Southern. You also won’t go wrong with Delaney & Bonnie & Friends on Tour with Eric Clapton (Atlantic, 1970).

Neil - I also have the import version. I love it. To me it's a roots oriented cd, not Southern Rock.

Totally agree. I put it on the list because I love it and wanted more people to hear.

You left George Harrison off the list, I know he doesn't fall under " Not necessarily rock, but definitely Southern" tag but he was around. After all how did Delaney end up with the Rosewood Tele?

EC does not fit that either... Harrison was certainly around B&D, but not on this album... I don't think...

thanks for the heads up! Duane and Gram would definitely be interesting to hear...are they on the same track together on this?

Should be, the story goes that they started recording at a certain time with everyone who was there and locked the doors

I must be in the minority as I wasn't THAT enthused with this album.

It's good, but I'm certainly not crazy about it
Could be the over active tamborine
