Tedeschi Trucks Band next studio album, Made Up Mind, will hit stores in August. Amazon.com currently lists an August 20 release date for the recording, which will be the third from the group, following their 2011 debut Revelator and 2012’s live Everybody’s Talkin’. The band has also released a cover image for the album, which can be viewed above.

Cool. Thanks.
Good title.
Good cover, but seems a bit disproportional. That's a BIG animal.

I like the album cover. The band is the buffalo and the train is mainstream. Derek and the Band are doing things there own way, all the nasayers (train) ,TTB (buffalo) standing there ground.

Sorry, that looks more like Chuck to me. If the buffalo was mainstream, it would be chasing the train.

I'd have to believe / hope that "Don't Drift Away," which was recorded for the first album and played in their early shows and randomly since, is included on this record. It would have been one of the strongest tracks on the debut. Great song that I think was written by Mike & Derek.

I too hope it's on this album. I was at their first show in Savannah in 2010 and "Don't Drift Away" stood out to me as an incredible song. I keep hoping it will show up on a studio album. I hope I'm not disappointed again this time

Love that cover! It's been a while since I've seen an album cover that cool. Well done, whoever came up with that.

I've been saying for a while that the TTB detractors, rather than making Derek rethink his musical direction, have just made him dig in his heels even harder. That album title seems like a not-so-subtle reference to that.

I know I'm in the minority, but I just don't care much for the TTB. Not sure why, but
they just don't do it for me. Love the Derek Trucks Band and Derek with the ABB but
I don't think I'll buy another TTB release. I listen to them once and pretty much file them
away on the shelf.

Just my Opinion. I know there all Great Musicians.

I think I'd really like a Derek Solo release of just Instrumentals. Kind of like Jimmy Herring does.

while I agree that I'd love to hear an instrumental album from Derek, I enjoy TTB and am looking forward to this release.

I am very eager to see what the band decides to do.

Will they keep the songs relatively short and tight, "song-oriented," as on the studio album, or offer some stretching out, as they did on the live disc?

Will the horn section play a major part? They have been a more active force live than they were on the album. Will songs be written to really feature what horns can do?

Will there be much in the way of traditional blues? Instrumentals? Jazz?

Because this band is early on in their career, they are not pinned to a specific sound or commercial expectation. There are plenty of people who will buy anything that features Derek Trucks; I am one of those people. Derek is an artist whose directions I follow no matter where they lead. There are a few musicians I follow like that, Miles Davis and Jeff Beck being two others.

Bring it on! And how about a DVD also?

As for the talk of TTB detractors, I don't know how much that would really be on Derek's radar. This band has been just as popular if not more so than the DTB, right? They get good reviews from the critics, and they sell out shows. The detractors are a vocal minority in certain corners of the Internet, but there are detractors of EVERYTHING on the internet. Jeez, look at the Dickey bashers. I would think that the band's increasing popularity and critical regard speak loudly enough to Derek.

"Because this band is early on in their career, they are not pinned to a specific sound or commercial expectation."

I see what you're saying, but after listening to the Wanee show, I think they have pretty much zeroed in on a "specific sound." The new tunes like Made Up Mind, It's So Heavy and Misunderstood all seem to be in the same zone, and I feel like this band has finally settled into their musical identity.

Some will like it, others won't, but I think they have pretty much found what they have been searching for.

Rob, even you have said Derek probably does not pay much attention to the detractors on this site. His remarks in interviews seem more directed to the same kind of folks who go to ABB shows and ask what happened to Dickey Betts and whether they will play Ramblin' Man.

By moving towards shorter, song-oriented formula-based music, the band has picked up a wider mainstream following, which as Jim noted above, is bringing bigger crowds to their shows than either the DTB or the STB enjoyed.

New material is grate, but when are they going to start selling the LIVE shows ???? If the ABB and Mule can do it, so can the TTB? I always assumed it had something to do with contracts, but I would also have thought that was over by now? I think they would be surprised how well they would sell. There are several shows that I have attended that I would love to own. If they happen to catch lightning in a bottle with this new release, live show sales could well exceed their greatest imagination. How about the TTB give away each SB free with every ticket purchase as a download just like Phish does? Just kidding, I know how the ABB business model works, and of course they would never give anything away for free.

The studio stuff is nice, but I want to be able to purchase the live shows, there is no comparison.

I honestly see no reason to do this at this point. I have seen them about 10-12 times now and it basically has been the same show every single time. They simply have not had enough material yet to make them much different.

As different as it got was in the last 8 months or so with the rotating bass players. They brouhgt in some differnet flair to the old songs but also brought in a few songs of their own.
