Universal Music, along with the Allman Brothers Band, Hittiní the Note and the Big House Museum, are proud to announce the 40th anniversary re-issue of Brothers and Sisters! You can read more about it by clicking on the link below:

http://www.hittinthenote.com/cart/p-1543-the-allman-brothers-bandbrbrothers -and-sistersbr40th-anniversary-re-issue.aspx

All pre-orders will receive a free copy of Hittin' the Note #77, whose cover story is all about the Super Deluxe Edition of this re-issue. For those that order the single CD or album, you will receive a PDF download of the magazine. For those that order the Deluxe or Super Deluxe packages, you will receive a free, printed version of HTN 77.

We are working on a B&S t-shirt and poster that still need to go through the approval process. If we are successful, all pre-orders will also receive a discount on these items.

Thanks,

JNB

Thanks Joe.

And the good news is I believe the A Minor Jam is Berry's Tune, at least the length of thr track leads me to believe it is, that time matches closely to the version I have of it.

DISC TWO: REHEARSALS, JAMS and OUTTAKES
1. WASTED WORDS (Rehearsal) 5:06
2. TROUBLE NO MORE (Rehearsal) 3:58
3. SOUTHBOUND (Instrumental Outtake) 5:56
4. ONE WAY OUT (Rehearsal) 5:38
5. IíM GONNA MOVE TO THE OUTSKIRTS OF TOWN (Rehearsal) 11:14
6. DONE SOMEBODY WRONG (Rehearsal) 3:50
7. DOUBLE CROSS (Outtake) 4:36
8. EARLY MORNING BLUES (outtake) 9:27
9. A MINOR JAM 16:30

Also ordered the 4 cd set, gonna be good! Can't wait.

And after talking to Joe, it is not Berry's Tune on there, oh well. Still have my boot copy.

Just placed my order for the Brothers And Sisters 4 CD deluxe set! Can't wait to receive it! I'm especially thrilled because the 9/26/73 show is included...at long last! I think it's well worth the $55.0 ($64.00) bucks spent!

Just placed my 4-CD set order + one other CD at HTN. Really looking forward to this one. This record/lineup/sound was actually the first one to grab me...along with a few of those wistful Eat a Peach tracks like Ain't Waisting Time & Blue Sky. Can't wait to dig into CD 2 and the live show.

Thanks for the orders and the kind words.
Disc 2 song clips are up on our site...wish I could make 'em longer!

http://www.hittinthenote.com/cart/p-1543-the-allman-brothers-bandbrbrothers -and-sistersbr40th-anniversary-re-issue.aspx

This is the disc that has the studio rehearsals, jams and outtakes.
Interesting view into that time - when you hear the full song you can really hear them feeling out each other...

Just curious. Why no Berry's Tune?

Good question. I'm not sure so I'll ask Bill Levenson about this and see what's up.

A few thoughts:
* Not including "Berry's Tune" is a little ridiculous. If not here, then when will it be released ever?
* I don't understand why "Double Cross" was left off the album. It would really have balanced things out nicely as it's such a great tune and so much more funky than anything the Chuck-era band played.
* I love "Early Morning Blues" and wish they'd kept that instead of changing gears towards "Jelly Jelly."

If you tally it up, you could easily have fit the "Pony Boy" outtake, the alternate "Ramblin' Man" vocal and, of course, "Berry's Tune" on the record.

Hell, if it were me, I'd nix all the retread stuff ("One Way Out," "Trouble No More," etc) and just go with the Brothers & Sisters stuff and the unreleased stuff.

Wasted Words (alt version)
Early Morning Blues
Outskirts of Town
Southbound (instrumental)
Jessica (alt mix)
Ramblin' Man (alt vocal)
Double Cross
Pony Boy (outtake)
Berry's Tune
Berry's Jam

That'd fit and be way more apropos.

Thanks for the sound samples Joe, sounds great. Looking forward to reading the liner notes, and I assume that is Lamar playing bass on everything except Wasted Words on the outtakes disc?

Out of those tracks, the most interesting by far is Berry's Tune.

The rest I could take or leave tbh. I haven't heard B & S for a long time but the alternative versions sounded pretty well identical, Early Morning Blues (aka Where's The Jelly?) excepted, obviously.

I haven't had a chance to ask Bill Levenson about Barry's tune but I think I heard somewhere that it was not in the vault...not certain about that but the Big House didn't have a version that was good enough for release.

One of the other things to remember is that this is the first effort with Universal since the lawsuit was settled. It's possible some tunes had copyright or publishing issues. Don't know...just food for thought.

However, I agree those CDs should be filled to the brim with music!

Thanks for taking the time to look into Berry's Tune Joe. It will be interesting to hear what Bill Levenson has to add to the story. Glad to see things settled with Universal. I don't kmow but I am getting a faint smell of Fillmore East coming down the line. Hope I'm right and if so I hope it's done right.

Bill wanted to include "Berry's Tune," but the master tape was not in the vault, and there was not an acceptable alternative - The "A Minor Jam" is very cool, and helps to make up for "Berry's Tune." Speaking of Berry; his work on the "Southbound" rehearsal tape is nothing short of amazing!

Thanks John, looking forward to reading your article. So Berry plays on Southbound? Very cool, looking forward to reading the liner notes, I assume Lamar is playing on most of the outtakes cuts?
