It's not that I can't stand it.... It's that nothing ever seems to change...He's writing...yawn. He feels better...glad. But damn, the set-lsts don't change and when he re-works a song like "Whippin' Post"...(How many years ago was that?)...He talks about it still as though it's going to be played for the first time. Does Gregg want to do something that will get people to take notice?... Do something out of the box, recreate yourself. Go deep into your catalog, blow the dust of some old stuff, practice and play an all acoustic set that does not contain "Melissa" or "Midnight Rider"... Sit down and work on your Hammond chops and put out a CD with music like one of your Idols, Jimmy Smith, challenge yourself. Until then, it's old hat. I've spent my last dime on you Brother. Give us something worthwhile Gregg or stay satisfied being just another oldies performer, the clock is ticking.

All we ever hear from Gregg is how he is writing all these songs. Where are they???

I have read 3 autobiographies this year. Buddy Guy, Keef Richards and Gregg's. Gregg's is a distant 3rd. And I have no desire to see a movie about it...

Mann, Gregg should hang with Hank III not Hank, Jr.

Gregg is great for a every-few-years-show for me outside the ABB. I've seen Gregg & Friends 6-7 times over the last 17-18 years and his setlist and band changed enough from show to show over that timeframe to be interesting to me. He was powerful and very lucid and engaging at his December show in Greenville, SC. His voice is a national treasure when he is "on" and and his vocal delivery has definitely been on for the last year. (after being weak as recently as Wanee 2012).

I too would love something surprising, but what he did deliver was very high quality. His last record was definitely different sounding, but that wasn't really the sound of his show in December.

I will say this, Gregg is not the easiest individual to interview. My only problem with most of these recent interviews is the same questions. They are basically all the same and Gregg is not the type of musician to branch off to other, more interesting(maybe), topics. When you see the videos of him on Stern or Pierce Morgan etc... you can see how, for lack of a better term, uncomfortable he is with taking questions.
And as Carol has stated, why all the negativity? He's answering questions.

I can understand that Gregg seems to find interviews very uncomfortable and unpleasant. The question becomes why does he still do them at all? It seems like he wants the publicity that comes with this sort of press attention, but isn't willing to put any effort into it on his end. Kind of like having your cake and eating it too.

I am absolutely shocked that Gregg's engagement with Shannon is off. If those two crazy kids can't make it, what chance do the rest of us have? It's enough to make you question the existence of true love.

Either that, or she read the book.

It did cover some very common ground for Gregg. Then again, it got into the movie, which was interesting. I'm the one who started the thread in January after seeing Gregg in San Francisco: "Gregg Hampered By Tired Setlist" which must have had over 1,000 hit's and 200 comments here. So as far as Gregg Allman & Friends, I thought Vince really hit the nail on the head as he often does:

Venom about Butch?
Bitching about Dickey ?
Hating on Gregg?

We could have the most perfect and interesing bunch of fans floating around this little patch of blue . My happy ass will be parked out in the lawn on Friday night enjoying Mr Allman belt out songs that I have heard and enjoyed for over 30 years (belt it out in a voice that few old men can replicate!). The best part about it is I will have my 13 year old son by my side taking it all in.

Lighten up folks and enjoy it while we still have it.

NO ONE here is HATING on Gregg or anyone else. I have a big problem with your post. I thought this was a discussion site, not strictly a PRAISE site. You are fine with Gregg's setlists obviously and enjoy his current shows. But then you lose me because you state that anyone who differs with you is full of hate. Actually I'm full of love for Gregg. He's given more thrills and emotions than any other musician alive. He's made me cry many, many times. But I know he can do much better than recycling past glory. If you're satisfied with Gregg Allman & Friends' current shows, more power to ya, keep going. Don't accuse those who are not of hatred.

Gregg can say whatever he wants to say, he owes me nothing. If he wants to repeat the same answers again and again, that is fine. It seems the interviewers also could use a new line of questioning, I imagine he gets tired of the same old questions just as much as most of you get tired of the same old answers.

I enjoy his music, the ABB music, no matter what he says in an interview. And will continue to go see him when he is around these parts, could be the same set list every time too, still will be a better show than 90% of the other stuff out there.

I'd actually say there are some folks who are hating on Gregg and they'd probably admit it. You may have been giving constructive criticism Rob or just sharing your opinion on Gregg & Friends shows, but others don't seem to have much balance in their slams of Gregg.

And Gregg & Friends is only constant repetition if you see him regularly. If I had to list out every song I've seen his band perform over those approx 7 shows over the last 17-18 years, it's definitely 40+ different songs (albeit with 4 of them repeated at probably every one of those shows).

BINGO!! WE HAVE A WINNER!

Agree on the interviewers too. It's the same old questions every time.

It's different interviewers in different markets so they all just ask the standard questions. It is not like it's the same 5 or 6 people asking questions over and over. At some point each city gets an interview and it's fresh for their non-die hard ABB fan readers.
