Being a soccer ref in Brazil isn't tough, Being a ref with psychotic people around you is tough.

Great place to hold the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympics.

Knowing friends that live in Rio unless you spend most of your time on the beach scene the inner city is full of poverty and crime...

Wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of disruption and rioting during the world cup and olympics and frankly I wouldn't blame them. Their government spends hundreds of millions on these events and doesn't lift a finger to help people in poverty.

My cousin and a couple of friends were spending a few months in Costa Rica and decided to take a day trip into Panama. When they reached the border crossing it was closed. There was a sign on the Panama side that said they would be back in a couple of hours. They had closed the border crossing to go into town to watch a soccer match. Guess they do take their soccer serious...

As a point of levity, this happened in an extremely remote town on a field that is basically on the edge of the jungle. It wasn't in a stadium and the teams weren't a part of any organized league.

This is the field:

The remoteness makes it easier to find a stake on which to mount the head.

The ref started out by killing the player he was arguing with. Then the fans took medieval revenge by killing him, drawing and quartering him, beheading him and putting his head on a spike. Perhaps we should ban soccer? (sarcasm)
