The new TTB is flat out awesome, just incredible. I love it. Derek, Susan and band knocked it out of the park. People wonder what kind of music Duane would be making ... He'd be making this kind.

agreed
I think I've listened to it about 5 times since Sunday (got it pre ordered from HTN). The bonus track is very good, too
Like I said on another thread, it sounds like one of the old recordings from Muscle Shoals.
The disc has more energy, cohesion, and better arrangements than Revelator.
It took me a few listens to get into the 1st disc - Made Up Mind just hit me right away

Definitely worth getting.

Agree fabulous CD. With all the talk of Derek being limited i find this to be untrue. Derek is doing more in 1/2 minutes than most guys in 10. The band is playing more as a unit and they produce a powerful sound.

what is the general sound like Blues? if it is more new world east Indian sounding material i am not interested kinda gave up on DT a long time ago just was not my type of music. but i would be willing to try again .... A interesting comment about the type of music Duane would be playing myself I see him more as a howling wolf type of guy and immersed in the blues to this day with a bid of Wes Montgomery thrown in.... all conjecture but fun non the less....

Great record, solid all the way through. Interesting to look at the writing dynamic as well with Misunderstood and Calling out to You written entirely by outside writers, but not a big deal as alot of their past solo albums had a good share of covers as well. Props to Eric Krasno, assuming he came up with the funky riff for Misunderstood.

Album layout and book were pretty cool as well. Can't wait to get the vinyl now.

I was confused by the frowny face, as well. Hoping my copy is delivered in today's mail.

Had this for about 4 days now and have not stopped listening. This is one of those recordings that you actually find something new every time you listen. I am not a fan of revelator ( except mdnite
in Harlem and Bound for Glory) but I found this album to be instantly enjoyable. I even liked the more subtle slower tracks such as idle wind (Dereks solo at the end is great), and its so heavy is Susans vocal powerhouse track. Listen to the emotion in her voice on this track. Of course The Storm is the standout track here with Derek taking full control for a spaced out long jam session. Love it! Saw TTB and Crowes two weeks ago in Philly and they played about 5 new tracks and yes they do stretch them out quite a bit live. If I had one complaint it would be not enough Derek but that is always my complaint. A guitar virtuoso of his caliber does not come along very often and needs to be showcased more IMHO. Anyway, I think this record is bound for all of the accolades that it deserves.

Why not listen to the samples?

Only listened to the 1st 4 songs on the way in this am. Really liked the Kofi-featured Idle Wind. Artwork is great, and I like the old map and composite face photos especially. Maybe could have done w/o the glamour shot of Derek and Susan at the end of the book, but a nice looking package overall.

agree about the book.
I like Mike's quote in the beginning.

the "sound" to me is Muscle Shoals mostly, with a little of everything else thrown in. Imagine Otis Redding meets Curtis Mayfield meets Aretha Franklin meets Wilson Pickett with something extra

Idle Wind is a great change of pace with Kofi and some Indian influence.
The Storm rocks.

Well I'm not asleep after the 4th song like on Revelator, so this is a plus.

Actually on first listen, this is a great sounding record. I think they've found the sound they want and the songs are really good. Just got past " The Storm" . Wow....

I'm amazed at the comments. Now I really can't wait to hear it. At PNC they rocked the new songs. I liked what I heard but couldn't say the title of any.

I have listen to the album twice through. How can you go wrong with that many top notch musicians. My only complaint is that Mike Mattison was not given a song to sing on. A break in Susan's singing would have been nice and added variety to this great album. Overall, great album, but not as good as the first.

I haven't received the email to download the bonus track from the pre-order.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thanks,
CB

Upon first listen I really like it a lot. Nice mix on this one of slow, mid tempo, and rocking songs unlike 'Revelator' which I do like but had only a couple of rockers and a bunch of slow songs and not much in between. They are building up quite a nice catalog of original material. Saw them play a few of these at Jones Beach and they can really stretch these songs out!!!

That's a good point. Revelator has some great songs and really good songs, but I think they were more successful at mixing up styles here. And the band seems to have gravitated to more uptempo stuff anyway, which helps. They were playing slower stuff when they got started. I think that's one of the reasons Don't Drift Away fell out of the rotation. That's too bad, but overall it's been a good change.

Joe sends the track as an mp3 attachment, not a link to a download
