Thinking tonight about the first time I logged in here after seeing the current lineup at the Beacon.
12 years ago in fact
My intention was to find out who the blond haired kid was that replaced Dickey

Who the hell knew that would have such a HUGE impact on my life?

Much love and gratitude to you all .. You ALL know who you are, I wont take the chance of offending someone by leaving them out.

Ya'll a great bunch

I borrowed a friend's computer at work in April 1997 who had a Prodigy account to see if I could find out some more information on Oteil & Jack (after finding out about Warren & Woody's departure in the Peach Buzz section of the Atlanta Constitution).

I found the old site and started posting on/off and have continued to this day. I made it to my first ABB related gathering at the Beacon 1999 (WonWayOut Gary's annual Gin Mill gathering). Been a great ride...

Two things that constantly have amazed me with this place over the years...how many wonderful friends I have made, been to shows with, hung out with, talked to, shared life with...but also how many wonderful friends I've made with people I've never even met face to face yet.

All of the posts in this thread remind me of my dear friend Randy Stephens - AKA Buppalo1.

For Randy, this music and the folks on this site brought to him the family he never had. I can say this because he told me so many times. Randy was a constant promoter of this band and of this site. He did more to put the town of Gadsden, Alabama on the map than anybody. At his funeral, I remarked that he should have been Gadsden's President of the Chamber of Commerce - to the chagrin of the gentleman who owned the title and happened to be standing near by.

I am also reminded of Bill Ector - AKA WillieHoward (and blood brother of John ). Bill was one of the most talented individuals whom I have ever met. He was such a humble and friendly guy that I could not believe how talented he was on just about any instrument that can be used to produce music.

There have been many other brothers and sisters who have passed this way. There was BobO - whom I never met, Elizabeth (Elagura) and John Ott - whom I also failed to connect with.

So many that have come and gone - so many still right here. Though we sometimes disagree on certain issues (my only NYE resolution in 57 years - stay out of the Whippin Post! ) - we are bonded by this music that just transcends description by mere genre.

Maybe this is not the end. Maybe it is. The original three are all past retirement age. But this hasn't stopped BB, Pinetop, Buddy or so many others.

Please do not accept my readiness to accept the inevitable as negativism. All things do indeed pass. Let us revel in our fan-hood. Long live the Allman Brother's Band!

I just recently started on this site. I was never much of a computer person. When I heard the news last night it was what I have been fearing for years. With all those above that have been active in this site and connected with each other makes me wish I would have done so earlier.
Whether this is it or not the Allman Brothers will live with me forever. It made me think of the first time I saw them. It was 1996 in Burgettstown, PA with 2 of my best friends. I was 20 years old and my buddy came to my house and said lets go to a concert. Not even knowing who we were going to see I went along. By the time we got there we were completely inebriated and were 4 hours early before the parking lot even opened:-) We met some cool people and continued pre-partying. During the show I was entranced. I felt as though they were playing exactly what I was thinking and feeling. It changed my life. I was completely blown away and when Little Martha played on the PA at the end I was speechless. All my friends and I could say to each other was "wow" the whole way back to the parking lot. No other words were spoken:-) When we got home that night we had to decompress and sat on a park bench till the sun came up talking about what we just witnessed (there may have been some hallucinogens involved):-) We had difficulty putting it into words but knew we just witnessed something extraordinary. I was an instant fan and have seen them from Seattle to NYC. I have seen a bunch of other bands but I always go back to that first show as my baseline. It wasn't until last year when my father passed away, I finally decided I needed to go to the Beacon (on my bucket list) and saw them there. It completed a full circle for me and felt like I was back to where it all begins (for me anyway). I left the shows last year on a high for months telling my fiancÚ that we are going back next year and every year until we can't anymore. She agreed.
The first show honestly changed how I looked at life and treated people. I became open minded to all life's possibilities and realized I had a lot to learn and couldn't wait to experience more. Their music got me through some tough times and I will forever be grateful to them all.
I will be at the shows on the 21st and 22nd barhopping with my purple mushroom 1996 tour t-shirt on from that first show and rocking it all weekend! I only wear it once a year so it stays nice. Maybe I will get to meet some of you all on this page and share some stories. If you see me, give me a yell. I'll buy you a drink.

The road goes on forever.........

Couldn't agree more Chuck, great people, and lots of great musicians to jam with on this site. That is worth its weight in gold regardless of any version of the band.............

Well you know where I stand Chuck.

Face to Face friends or virtual friends, its hard to make people understand the relationships that have developed because of this great band.

From 1973 through about 1994, the Allman Brothers music was the soundtrack to my life...

For that I will always be grateful.

We understand...

I think we should all make a concerted effort to have as many of the original Sweeties crowd together one night this March. Heartbreaking that John W. Ott won't be there, but we should endevour to do this.

Brendan bro you read my mind. I was thinking how great it would be to have one last Sweeties party. THOSE were the best, the HTN thing is nice don't get me wrong. Back in the day though, the parties in the hotel suites were legendary !!!

Count me in to help organize if this picks up steam. TERRI B please pick up the red courtesy phone!!!! LOL

already contacted her.. I only asked which HTN party they were doing though.
Last year we all went out to dinner, which was fun and then hopped around to a few bars. We could do that as well.
will mention the party thing too
