Can't say I disagree with a single thing you just said.

According to a study conducted by the Fordham Institute. Public school teachers are two times more likely to send their children to private schools.

I have always said that I thought both longer work days and longer school days would be a good thing as long as you eliminated a day of work in exchange. In other words, 2 more hours of work and school per day but you only go to school and work 4 days a week giving families more off time together and a longer rest period between work weeks.

Wow, I'd have to agree with all of this too. What a strange thread.

Crazy idea. Obama had once suggested thistoo.

School and some public schools in some districts under some principals with some teachers do a fine job.

YES, there are many people in every job and profession /career who do not right and need to do something else.

Schools days 5 days a week, about 7:30 to 3:00 is good enough.
Add many schools have after school tutoring during the year, well, that is enough.

During the school day, the students have lunch, Specials/Rotations/Arts such as P.E., Art, Music, Library, well, the day is full with some breaks. These classes are not breaks, but easier classes for the children to pass and to do enhance and gives the students a well rounded education.

Many pubic school systems serve breakafast, free of charge. Lunch is usually free for man y studnets too.
Wait. There is more food. Many schools offer students weekend bags of dry foods to eat over the weekend.

During tutoring, snacks are provided. Hmm, guess who pays for those sncaks of popcorn, cheese crackers, dry cereal like Cheerios, some chips, bananas, etc. THE TEACHERS!!!!
When they go grocery shopping for their homes, families, well, they have to buy this too.

Problem of public school system? Problesm?
Easy solutions to all the problems. Thatis parental involvement.
Parents making their children do the homework. Parents ,care takers making their children behave by stopping by. Taking note to the teachers's calls for help.
Parents making and joing a PTA,PTO , whatever you want to call it.
Parents volunteering in the day .

Many kidds out there with some messed up home lives.

Public schoolsworked when you guys were young kids in the 60's , 70's. They still work and can work for those that need some reworking.

Longer school days, vouchers, are not the answers. I am against school vouchers too.
If you do not like your zoned school, then do not go.
Go to a private school.I did.
Go get second job and send your child.
Mine did.

Oh, and remember, what goes on at public govt. run school does not go at private,Catholic schools like you and your litle darling having ya'll way.
Most , I bet you , kids from public schools cannot measure up to private school standrads and they and their parents probably have issues with the way things are run there in private school land.

One more thing, with teh call for longer school days, umm who WHO is going to pay the teachers, custodians, office staff and cafeteria staff and nurse a bigger salary?
No one.

Running a school day longer would seving dinner, LOL!!!! 4:30, 5:00 dinner.
Gee , why not have school one until 8:00 and serve supper, dessert or night snack?
Tutoring between 4:00 -5:00. Dinner at 4:30-5:00 or at 5:30. Class at 6:00- 7:00. Where does it end?

Same thing wanteing to exapnd the school year to 11 months or 12months a year.

These people likeObama and Chrisite and these Ph.D people are missing the points, the solutions, and the problems.
