I heard he went to rehab for heroin a while back. It's a damn shame he couldn't kick it, he was a genuine talent.

This is very tragic....

A superlative actor. One of my favorites.

On a music note, his portrayal of music critic Lester Bangs was one of the elements that made Almost Famous such an incredible movie IMO

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman

Just watched him play the part of the villain in "Mission Impossible 3" the other day.
Just plain sad that drugs have such a hold on people, very tragic indeed.

What a shame. He was very talented and I like some of his movies but he chose to mess with heroin… oh well.

What a shock! I loved his work. Too bad another gifted artist has succumb to such misadventure.

Why would that mean that there's no God or whatever you want to call him/her/it/them?

My first thoughts were of a drug OD since he had issues with heroin; but this is just further proof that being and staying sober is where it's at, and that drug and alcohol use/abuse just leads to an early death, incarceration, or winding up in a detox/rehab/state mental hospital. I enjoyed him a lot in the movie Capote. He was a talented actor but he was human like us all. May he rest in peace.

Totally sad and tragic. RIP Phillip. You were my favorite actor. A talent that comes around once in a generation, if we're lucky. You were special and i will miss you greatly.

Love Liza is probably the most disturbing, emotional, and home-hitting portayal of an addict I've ever seen. Hoffman plays a floundering addict huffing and sniffing his way thru life. Hearing this news of a real life OD is like watching life imitate art.

Eerie....

He played in so many great movies. Even the ones that weren't that good were better due to him. I must admit it doesn't comes as a surprise to me that he had an addiction. Alcohol yes, Coke yes but smack? Such a shame.
